Questions 3 weeks Post Op after Cold Knife Conization

Hi everyone,
Well as some may have read in my other posts I had the cold knife cone procedure on 6-18-03 for cervical CIN3. I have had a period since it was done and I am 3 weeks post and I am still having light spotting daily. Does anyone know when this stops?
For my 2nd question...I read in some literature from the ACS that the same HPV virus (high risk ones) that causes dysplasia can cause Anal Cancer. Now my concern here is that if HPV is spread by skin to skin contact, then during intercourse most of the body parts touch down there! Then not to mention if anyone has sexually experimented in that way! Now I am panicking wondering what my chances are of having this too. Has anyone's doctor ever brought this up? Mine didnt and I had to read about it. Thanks a bunch. Carol

(((Carol)))

Yes, HPV can be responsible for anal cancer. Also, bladder cancer, mouth and throat cancer, and possibly prostate cancer. All of those cancers are more rare than cervical cancer, and you don't hear of them often--but they do happen. I worried non-stop for the first year after my surgery, but the truth is, that worrying is not going to help anything at this point. I figure the best I can do is be as healthy as possible and if anything else pops up, well, I will deal with it then. In the meantime, I take great comfort in knowing that those cancers are pretty rare and that the likelihood of them affecting me is small. I keep myself informed, and I watch (without paranoia when possible) for any symptoms that could indicate a problem. So far, so good.

It's easy to get stressed out at the possibilities--we all do. Try not to let it get the better of you.

Here's to health and happiness!!

Hi Jeanine

Jeanine,
I didnt know that HPV could cause all of those cancers too! Oh boy now I am panicking! lol J/K No it is a worry for me, but I am a natural born worrier anyway! I will try better to not let this worrying get the best of me. But it is hard. <sighs> I am having my 2nd period in 3 weeks since my surgery. Callled the doctor and he said the surgery can make me irregular for awhile. Thanks for writing and take care.
Carol
