Lavender oil is healing & stops the itch. (It also smells wonderful!) I used it on a previous surgery incision - a friend gave me a small bottle. It worked wonders with the itch, which had been driving me nuts.

Oh, I want to try the lavender oil, that sounds nice!

I use a product callled Aquaphor. It is an ointment available OTC. It also helps promote healing of the scar.

Itching is a great (although annoying) sign that the incision area is healing. I have a 6 inch scar from a neck surgery that itched for many months after surgery. This is completely normal and nothing to be cocerned about. Be careful not to scratch the area, and if it becomes red and "angry" be sure to give your DR a call.

Best Wishes

putting anything on incision

Please don't put anything on your insicion until it is completely healed without your dr's permission. If you have any open areas it could cause an infection. Peg

That's true Peg! I didn't put anything on/near the incision until I had the Dr's permission, which came at 2 weeks post-op.

I have a draining hole in my incision now, but I am allowed to put ointment all around the area. My skin is very sensitive and irritated due to the constant draining. The Auquphor makes a nice skin barrier so that I am not irritated day and night.

RE: Itchy incision

Hi, I had my surgery on June 17 too! I've been very itchy, between the incision and the shave they gave me, I'm going nuts. I was putting Hydrocortisone creme around the incision for the first 2 weeks, that helped a lot. I forgot to ask the Dr. at my check up if I could put some Vitamin E oil on the whole area. I will call him on Monday to ask. I'm afraid to put anything directly on the incision, it's healing nicely, I don't want to ruin it. I'll let you ladies know what he says tomorrow. Take care!
