A trip to the E.R.

Finally got my surgery date......August 6th so now the journey has a reference point!!! But yesterday was scary!! I have been saying that my periods were getting to the point of hemmoraging, and yesterday it happened. At work, no less, and I work with truck drivers, HAHA! My first ambulance ride, I hope last! They gave me hormones to make my menstruation stop till surgery and I am on TRIPLE the dose of Iron till sugery. My hemoglobin was down to 7.8 and has to be at 10 before surgery or I have to have a transfusion. I'm going to see if my DBF and DD can donate their blood..Any way, I was just wondering if this happened to anyone else???

A trip to the E.R.

Prior to my first myomectomy I had severe hemmoraging, and ended up taking an ambulance ride up the street to the hospital where they did an emergency removal of one fibroid on a stalk vaginally (I forget now what the proceedure was). I had to have a transfusion because my blood count was at a 4! It was a bit sobering when we realized I almost bled to death from a period. After that we (DH&I) kept a close watch on the bleeding.

After that, prior to each myomectomy and my TAH, I was anemic, on double iron, double BC pills (which didn't help anything except make me see double). My doctor utilized a cell saver, which recycled my own blood and helped minimized the loss. I did not have another transfussion since that surgery, although my hemoglobin was only in the 6's.

Hope you are doing better, get lots of rest and drink lots of fluids. Many wish for smooth sailing from here on out.

Similar experience...

bleeding for 3 weeks, lowered my iron count (family doctor had me on one, then two iron pills; then gynecologist upped it to 3 pills - she also wanted the count to be at 10 before the surgery - I got it up to 12!), emergency D&C when it started all over again - only a few weeks before the Big Day. (I really, really had hoped I wouldn't have to have a D&C *and* a TVH... oh, well!) But I am so grateful that we live in the world we live in - years and years ago we would have died from the bleeding, bleeding, bleeding! (Remember the woman in the Bible with the bleeding problem? She was so desparate to have it stop that she wanted to just touch the hem of Jesus' garment, knowing He was able to heal her. If she hadn't been so bold, she would certainly have died!) I hope your having the problem at work and the ambulance experience weren't too embarrassing... Yes, drink lots of fluids - you've lost a lot and have to replenish things! And rest up for the Big Day. DebbiJK
