Hi Tessa and welcome!
I'm sorry that you're having this problem. It concerns me when people make a blanket statement about how "good life will be after a hysterectomy". Though outcomes are excellent for many women, there are others like you who are also having difficulties.
I was started on HRT right after my surgery (estrogen only) and it did relieve my surgical menopause symptoms, but I found that my libido was pretty much gone. I did some research and then asked my Dr. about adding testosterone. I was switched to Estratest HS (estrogen and testosterone) and it pretty much fixed that.
However, testosterone is not necessarily for everyone. I encourage you to check out the Hormone Jungle forum here at HysterSisters. There is a whole lot of information that you can find, along with message boards that are frequented by women who are working on finding the right balance for them. You can click on 'Hormone Jungle' at the top of the page, or here is a direct link:
http://www.hormonejungle.com/ . Doing some research to discuss items with your Dr. may be beneficial as you journey to find the right balance for you.
I can understand your frustration, but second guessing your decision now to have your hyst will not help. Think positive in that you had valid reasons to have the surgery and discussed options with your Dr. before making the decision.
Best wishes and lots of
