First and foremost I want too say that this site has made me understand that Im not the only woman who have concerns about hysterectomy. I thank God for all of you. My problems is that I have notice so many different things have happen to my body since I had my TAH 7 years ago. I have no control over my bladder. If I cough or sneeze too hard urine leaks out. If I have to go to the bathroom I have to get there in a hurry. I have tried to stop the flow and I cant. What is wrong with me!!!!!!!!!!. When my DH told me that I dont fell the same inside that made me very sad. My DH and tried to see during sex if he could feel my vagina contract and he said he felt nothing. This makes me know that something went wrong with the surgery. I went thru so much after the surgery. I stayed in the hospital for 3 weeks. When I came out of recovery the pain was so bad they had to put me on morphine. I had this lilttle button I would press to adminster the morphine in intervels. How crazy was that?. Then they said something was wrong with my lower bowel. I couldnt eat or have a bowel movement. This went on seems like forever. My head is so messed up at this point. I was told by a marriage counsler that maybe I need to go and have my vagina sewed so that I can please my DH since my DH said that my vagina seems to have gotten larger and he cant fell anything inside of me. I dont know what could have happen to make my vagina so large till our sex life is nill. What are the pros and cons to have such a procedure done like that? or has anyone ever had this type of surgery? ressie58

I am so sorry that you are going through so much sweetie!!

I also have much of the same problems and then some. It sounds like stress incontinence, urge incontinence or a combo of both as to the coughing and sneezing. Have you tried doing kegals? I know some women have trouble doing them properly and they have therapy to show you how to correctly do them to get the benefits of strengthening the pelvic muscles. I would definetly look into that before heading straight for surgery.

I have tried the kegal therapy with no luck and also have vaginal vault prolapse that at this point can only be corrected by surgery. I also have no muscle strength during intercourse and DH notices it too.

I would definetly make a Gyn appt to see what the extent to your problems are and also see a Urologist about the incontinence issue. There are alot of other things besides surgery that can help some women. As for your marriage councelor, he is NOT a female Dr and probably has no clue how to resolve the problem without surgery.

Please let us know what you deside to do and I will keep you in my prayers!!

HUGS

Hi ressie ((((hug))))

I'm so sorry you're having all of these issues... and I know how it feels to have no control (or very little of it) over your bladder: I have the same problems.

Mine started almost a year after my hyst. And they've been getting increasingly worse.

I just had my first appointment with a urologyst and she's sending for physical therapy. It's a special therapy for the pelvic area and I know that other members are already going for it. I go for my first appointment on the 22nd, so I'll know more then.

((((Sweetie)))) please do not wait any longer: do seek medical help on this issue. Urinary incontinence is a problem that many women face, especially after childbirth, after a hyst or during menopause. However, most of the time, there is something that can be done and, as I'm finding out, it doesn't have to include even more surgery: meds and therapy are also options that might help.

Hang in there, sweetie, and let us know how you're doing

Hi,

I have a vesico vaginal fistula (hole in bladder) that has not been rapairable. 5/30 we decided to have my bladder disconnected. I now have a urostomy. One of the things my uro stressed to both me & my dh was that we may never have intercourse again. Neither of us hesitated because our quality of life was suffering. We have found alternatives & sex is such a small part of our lives. I don't mean that we have given up because I do have an appt with a uro/gyn specialist but we just have so many other things going on we don't miss it. After all this has been going on for 7 months for us. I also had a morphine drip after all 4 of my surgeries. I just assumed that was standard procedure. I either pushed the button if I needed it or didn't. As soon as they realized I wasn't using it they disconnected it. Although the anest did explain it to me & gave me choices before surgery. Don't give up because there are answers out there for you & dh. You just have to keep looking.

God Bless,
Terry
