Post Op - I did too much yesterday

Yesterday I was feeling soooo good, actually I have for the last 4-5 days. I made a big mistake and did too much yesterday, now I have such bad pains on the left side.. kind of stabbing pains.

What did I do? I have no fever, there's no bulging or bruising. Has anyone encountered this? Should I just stay low or do I need to call the MD on call?

Just wondering what your experiences have been.

Hi,

The Pillow have been called and are on their way to your house, even as we speak!

Sweetie, even if you do feel wonderful, that doesn't mean that you have healed! You're just a little over a week post-op. You still have at least 5 to 7 weeks left before you're initially healed with full healing taking over 6 months to a year. You have hundreds of internal sutures holding everything together. All you should be doing at this point is resting and taking short walks.

Okay, enough lecturing. Yes, you should call your doctor. You may have pulled some stitches loose or something. And until you hear from him or her, put your feet up, rest, and read the do's and don't's list for post-op princesses:

Toonces Do's and Don't's List for Post Op

-Picking up pillows and repositioning them…..allowed
-Turning on dishwasher AFTER SOMEONE ELSE HAS LOADED IT…..allowed
-Changing roll of toilet paper…..allowed
-Flipping on lightswitch…..allowed
-Folding laundry…..allowed
-Taking short, easy walks and gentle stretching…..allowed
-Lifting the remote control…..allowed
-Asking others for help...allowed and encouraged

X – Vacuuming…..NOT ALLOWED
X – Sweeping or Mopping…..NOT ALLOWED
X – Carrying laundry across house to washer…..NOT ALLOWED
X – Lifting, Bending, Reaching, Driving…..NOT ALLOWED
X – Lying around the house all day doing nothing…..NOT ALLOWED (see above)
X - Bending to access oven or empty litterboxes....NOT ALLOWED
X - Going to Wal-Mart for some bargain shopping....NOT RECOMMENDED
X – Pushing a shopping cart….NOT ALLOWED
X – Sitting for prolonged periods of time i.e. at computer….NOT ALLOWED
X – Opening windows, particularly the hard-to-open ones….NOT ALLOWED
X – Making other people’s problems your own…..NOT ALLOWED
X - Picking Tomatoes, Weeding, and other such nonsense...NOT ALLOWED

You only get one chance to heal right, and this is it. If you blow this chance, you don't get another. So be a good princess and take care of yourself.

Best wishes and s,

Lisa

Post Op - I did too much yesterday

I am going to tell you what my doctor told me on Wednesday at my two week visit, YOU ARE DOING TOO MUCH!!!! YOU TELL ME YOU ARE LISTENING TO YOUR BODY, I AM TELLING YOU ARE LISTENING TO THE SOUND OF BOREDOM!!!!!
I know that you hear and read about people doing all sorts of stuff before they should be and you think, I am feeling pretty good I can do that, well you can't and should not. Take the short walks, do the things that the doctor said you can but take it easy.
Believe me I am learning the hard way!

yes you are doing too much and I did the same as you

I am about 2 1/2 weeks PO and my dd made me mad cause she didn't want to vacume so I picked it up and did 3 or 4 strokes and was crying in bed for about 3 hours!!!!!!!! then later that night I bloated up and looked like I was about 6 months preg !!!!!!!

and now I have a small "lump" near my incision !!!!!!

So I learnt the hard way and so did my kids that they HAVE to help me out

Post Op - I did too much yesterday

I also did way too much yesterday! I am 2 1/2 weeks TAH and went to a meeting for a few hours. I came home and had to go straight to bed. I feel bad saying "no" but I am learning that my body is going to need more healing than I anticipated.

I had two C-sections and remember bouncing right back (of course, that was sixteen years ago). This surgery is certainly more involved and requires a lot more healing.

When I do too much, my incision hurts and I feel a heaviness in my vagina. I'm also very tired. This morning, it was an effort to move from the couch.

So we must learn to let our bodies heal and not do too much!
