Asking Dr for pain meds b4?

Last year when i was first diagnosed, I asked my then-gynnie if she could give me anything for the pelvic pain that i often have. she was unwilling to.

my Alien is bigger now, and sometimes i do have pain, besides just feeling the pressure and bloat from lugging this thing around.
What is your experience with your Gynnie giving you something for pelvic pain? I have an Rx for Toradol, that i used to take for menstrual pain, but i can only use that 3 days because its so strong and has bad stomach effects due to my being on NSAIDs for arthritis too.

I'm afraid to ask for pain medicine, because the dr might think i'm some kind of addict.

IMHO...Ask your DR again, and if she is still unwilling to help you manage your pain, get a second opinion.

The very first time I saw my current GYN, I told him about how I was having severe pain during my periods, along with all the other icky stuff that was going on. I never asked him to prescribe anything, but at the end of my visit, he handed me a bunch of paperwork. One was for bloodwork, another was for an ultrasound, and the last two were prescriptions for pain meds, including one narcotic. He told me to call him if they did not work, or if there were any changes. He told me when to call his office for the test results, and he told me I would probably be seeing him every six months from then on. Each and every time I saw him thereafter, he asked about how I was managing my pain.

After reading many, many posts like yours, I feel I am soooo lucky to have found this kind and caring DR. But I know he's not the only one, so keep looking.

Asking Dr for pain meds b4?

It still angers me that so many doctors refuse to give their patients adequate pain relief. Gosh, it bugs me! Do they think we're lying? Or maybe we're all drug addicts? Razzafrazza!

My own ob/gyn was very reluctant before surgery to even give me tylenol #3 - it was only after my uterus had been biopsied and "severe adenomyosis" was found that he actually apologised for "not realising" how severe my pain had been. Geez. Thanks doc, for trusting me...

Anyway! Please, please talk to your doctor again - maybe put in a request in writing (for some odd reason, this often works better....) for some decent pain killers. Tell him/her that you're aware of the risks and benefits associated with narcotics but you know your own pain tolerance better than anyone, and you know that what has been offered will not give you adequate pain relief.

Failing that - try and obtain a second opinion. Some doctors are more "sensible" than others, and will be happy to provide a patient with pain relief when it's needed.

Good luck, and hang in there!

Many warm wishes,

Tess
