OsCal Ultra and Soy . . . help?

Hi everyone . . .

I'm 6 1/2 weeks po and doing well, except for the sex thing, which I'm trying to allow time to handle. I won't be a nag hag about that just yet!

My other problem is that I had massive adhesions, basically from stem to stern (colon, uterus, tubes, bladder) and before surgery (which I call the bs portion of my life since I was so miserable) I had problems going to the bathroom. Without great detail so I don't gross anyone out, it was a struggle in which claw marks were left on the walls in the bathroom.

Oh, how things have changed.

I'm taking OsCal Ultra (twice a day) on the advice of my wonderful Dr. and also taking 125mg of Soy Isoflavones (twice a day) for the hot flashes I have (about 15 a day, mostly early morning and night.) I'm trying to avoid hrt, though I have a script for Vivelle (sp?).

My question is, are my bowels just reacting from being 'tied up' for so long or could the supplements be causing this? While it's a nice change to be able to do my business, I seem to have A LOT of business to do! :eyes:

Can anyone help or has anyone else had this problem?

Thanks so much!

Hi,

It could be the soy supplement, it does seem high dosage. Did you ask your dr about the soy? It would be better to take in soy foods, because they are more natural to take and digest. Good luck and hope you feel better.

Dosage

Hi SuzyQ--
The dr. suggested the Revival Soy website for their products since his wife and mother-in-law use the products (he gets no kickbacks, just passes on good info) and said they taste great unlike most soy products to a lot of people. This site was informative, but you have to order so many bars/shakes/products that I decided against it out of fear of not liking the taste. I personally haven't been able to find a soy product that I can handle the taste of, so I thought I'd go this route first. He said to take at least 125mg a day, and to make sure it was the isoflavens that had that value and not the other kind (?) because of the way they're processed. All the supplements I found at pharmacies and Wal Mart were in the 40-50mg range and I found this at GNC. I've only been on it since Tuesday, so you may be right and I might need to drop the dosage down to just once a day.

Any suggestions on a decent tasting soy product?

OsCal Ultra and Soy . . . help?

(((((((anicole))))))))),

I drink 1 cup (8 oz.) of SOYSILK chocolate milk. It tastes like yahoo. I eat 1/3 cup Good Sense roasted soy nuts. per day.

Those 2 things together are the recommended amount of soy for a day that I found during research.

You can find both of them at wal mart in the grocery section of a Supercenter. They are both an excellent source of calcium. The Soysilk alone, since fortified is 350 mg. of calcium !!!!!!!!!

Best wishes,

Pamcat
