road trip 3 weeks post op

I have to travel 4 hours and 15 minutes to get to my orthodontist appointments (already paid for in advace 2 years ago and then I moved). Anyway, I am scheduled for an appointment at exactly 3 weeks post op and will have to drive myself there and back. I will be able to travel at my own pace and make frequent stops if needed but wanted to know if anyone out there thought I was absolutely nuts. I had a TVH on July 14 and have taken VERY good care of myself and feeling very good. By the way, this would not be a round trip. I stay at my parents home a day or 2 before I drive back home. Umm, I don't think I could handle that long of a road trip and I am 2 1/2 weeks post-op. My DR released me to drive down the street and back, but he told me not to drive across town until 4 weeks post. What did your DR say about driving? Also, if you are still taking pain meds you can't drive! I went yesterday for my first post-op check up and the 45 minutes drive across town with me as the passenger was not too comfortable. I think the problem with that long of a drive is sitting for that amount of time. I would try to reschedule if I were you. Good luck!

I don't think you are crazy, I think you need to see how you feel. You could probably postpone your appt for a week or even two if you are questioning whether to go or not. I am 4 wks post op after a TAH/BSO, and am going 9 hours next week on a relaxing vacation that was planned a long time before my hyst. I will take it easy getting there, and back, but I am going--and very much looking forward to it. My doctor said let pain be my guide, and I feel terrific. You are the one and only person that truly knows if you can handle the trip-or not!
