-Eating chocolate like crazy! High blood pressure too boot.

Hello sisters, I have a question for you all. First, let me say that I have never been much of a chocolate bar eater. Could maybe finish off a little Hershey kiss once in a while, maybe a Snicker fun size with a glass of milk. Wellllll, now it seems that I can't get enough of the stuff. I just finished off a Symphony bar (7oz.) . I am craving chocolate especially with nuts and am also eating lots of stuff with loads of carbs, like crackers any kind.

Could this be something hormonal? I am on Estratest and other than still not being able to get to sleep at a decent hour I am feeling great.

Anyone ever gone through this? I hope this does not last as I can't afford to gain anymore weight.

Oh, at 6 week post op doctor visit he said my blood pressure was high and I might have to go on medication for it. He wants me to come back in a month and if it is still high he will refer me to my general dr. for prehypertension meds. I sure don't want to go there, so if anyone can sympathize with me I would appreciate hearing from you.

I am walking 45 min. every other night and need to find a way to cut down on my calorie consumption----this will be the hardest for me to do-----I love to eat! Thank you sisters, Cindy sends s

Hiya Cindy!

I know how you feel about these cravings! You might want to take a look at www.hormonejungle.com ~ there are many very interesting articles you many find pertain to your situation. It could be hormonal. Somehow your body seems to be craving carbs... perhaps your DR might have some ideas ~ perhaps multivitamins, if you're not already taking them... to satisfy a level of something that might be running low? either from the surgery and trauma itself (healing does tend to zap energy!) or from hormonal issues?

Sorry to hear about the BP -- maybe the prehypertension therapy will nip the situation in the bud and only be a temporary issue. Please let us know how things progress for you. I'm sending best wishes and cyber-HUGS your way!

Overactive taste buds?

Hi Cindy,
I've always had a passion for chocolate, except for a few weeks after my hyst. I'd hoped synthetic hormones might cure my addiction, but I'm back on the chocolate again now. I suppose we should try to savour every mouthful, that might reduce the volume? I'll try if you will!
I've also had turbulent blood pressure. I like to think of it as "the high side of normal" because it gets high if I worry about it.
It's good you're making time for regular, enjoyable exercise. I expect that helps you relax and unwind.
Chocolate was invented to make us happy, just don't eat too much!
Hope your recovery stays on course.
Cheers,
Anne

I've had a life long love affair with good chocolates, thanks to an Aunt introducing me to Godivas when I was a teen. I thought I was bad BEFORE this surgery! HA!!! My neighbor bought me a box of Godiva - GONE in 2 days. My friend in CA sent me a box of See's Chocolates (they're made out there & are pretty wonderful) - INHALED those. My husband works for a company with international head quarters in Belguim. They sent him some promo chocolates for him to give to customers. He left the box of them on the dining room table. Need I say more????

Glad to see I am not the only chocoholic right now. It sure tastes sooooo good, doesn't it? I was told by a friend (whose dh is a doctor) that it is ok to eat a little chocolate every day it is supposed to contain some chemicals that do us good. I don't need anymore encouragement than that I am trying hard to limit myself, but it is so hard. However, I will do my best to keep it down to an ounce or less a day. Cindy who now loves sends s

ME TOO-on both!

It is reassuring to know that I am not the only one that has these problems! I had normal blood pressure until two days AFTER surgery and it has been above normal ever since. I had to see my internist who has put me on a blood pressure medicine (temporarily, he thinks.) I have had no explanation as to why this has happened, but it is sure weird. Also, I too am a chocolaholic...always have been....and sure would like to figure out a way NOT to be!

Happy healing to all of you!

Hi Cindy, As far as the b/p goes watch your salt intake like a hawk. I was told I had high b/p after taking stacker 2 to assist with my gym workouts. Ephedra is nasty stuff! Anyway I was on b/p meds for 3 months . Once I ciontrolled it with my diet my dr took me off them. I hated the meds.I check everything that I eat for sodium. I try to keep it around 2,400 a day but I know it is often lower. Seems everything has salt in it. Once in awhile maybe once or twice a month if my b/p has been good I will eat something I normally wouldn't that I want. Otherwise I am very strict with the diet . It works my b/p 2 days ago was 110/78 ! It is difficult sometimes but it can be done. Exersize also helps keep it down. Caffine will raise it also.Good luck. Peg
