High Blood Pressure

Has any one else had problems with high blood pressure after surgey. I Had tah in april. I never have had high blood pressure before except during pregnancy when I was put on medication for premature labor. I kept bugging my husband to have his checked because he is always flying off the handle and face turns red. So we went to store to one of the machines his was fine but mine was 149/101. I have been taking occassionally this week to see if it stays up. It's up and down. I'm going to make a doctors appointment if it continues. My father recently died because of high blood pressure and getting in a hot tub. My mother said he never had high blood pressure until he had surgery. So that kind of worries me. I have never heard of that before. Sooooo has anyone else had this problem?
would appreciate to hear any one elses experiences.

High Blood Pressure

Hi Ninette! I have had high blood pressure since I was pregnant with my last child, 25 years ago. But it has always been well controlled with medicine. Since my surgery it has been high again. It was 180 over 104 at the oncologists office when he took my staples out. He told me to go home and immediately call my MD. Which I did. He has changed my medicine twice trying to bring it down. I also had to take my blood pressure at home every night for 6 weeks. It is now running about 135 over 90, which is still high but better. I'm now just taking my blood pressure a couple times a week, keeping track of it. I don't know if the surgery had anything to do with it or not, but the doctor did blood work and had a renal ultrasound done to make the kidneys hadn't been damaged during surgery. Every thing looked fine. I'm now walking 4 miles a day in hopes that will help bring it down.

High Blood Pressure

Ninetee
Yes, my blood pressure has been affected by surgery. I had high blood pressure before the surgery, and was on meds for that, and everthing was under control. NOW it is all over the place. I was not taking any HRT, but since starting Climara patch, pressure appears to be coming back into line. The DR tells me that the swinging of hormones can effect blood pressure, make sure to discuss with your DR.

Just my 2 cents worth, hugs

High Blood Pressure

I remember someone writing in with an answer her doctor had given her. Her doctor thought the stress of surgery brought on the high pressure that she was destined to get anyway.

High blood pressure runs in my father's family. I had it when I was in the later stage of pregnancy (my OB told me it was a sign that I would actually have high blood pressure someday).

Mine was higher after surgery (TAH) too. however, it has since gone down to normal and I have not taken any medication. I'm 46, and in my father's family they seem to all go on medication in their 60's. If you keep your blood pressure well controlled with meds (if you do need them) you should not worry. Diet and exercise help too.

Aside: I have found that flying of the handle and turning red is not a sign of high blood pressure. I have taken it sometimes under those conditions and it was like 110/70! Other times sitting in a chair relaxing it was 140/90. Go figure!

High Blood Pressure

I guess for every issue there are at least two sides. I also take medication for high blood pressure because of isolated incidences of extrememly high blood pressure and having had two heart attacks. However, after other surgeries I have had, my blood pressure dropped so low that it really concerned everyone - including me! It seems to stabilize after a couple of days with no lingering problems.

A phone call to your DR couldn't hurt. DR should be aware of your concerns and is in the best position to calm your fears and handle any medical needs.

We'll keep you in our thoughts and hope there are no bumps in the road on your journey.

High Blood Pressure

Hi
I am on 2 different meds for high BP. 1 day post-op it dropped so low they were freaking out. 81/52 and mine usually runs 135/90 even on meds. I need to schedule a follow up with my reg MD for him to recheck my bp and make sure all is going well.

High Blood Pressure

My blood pressure shot way up after surgery. The doctor put me on some meds but they made me really sick. My blood pressure went down all by itself about a week after surgery. No problems since.

High Blood Pressure

My blood pressure went up about 2 days after surgery. It normally runs about 120/80 and at the highest since surgery it has been like 150/100. The doctors don't have any answers for it but put me on a low dosage blood pressure medication for awhile. They seemed to think that I will only need them for a short time until my body heals. Even with the medication it still is higher than normal for me. I am supposed to go back to my internist next week to have him check it again.

high blood pressure medication and hair loss

Hi,
I am a two year survivor of hyster. and blood pressure has just gone up with these picky pains in my chest. My doctor put me on Norvasc. It works good but my hair is falling out. I have only been on meds for 2 weeks. I also take vivelle dot a wonderful hrt. Has anyone had hair loss with blood pressure meds while on
hrt? If so did they find one that didn't cause hair loss. Norvasc is a calcium channel blocker. Any info would be appreciated. Thanks

High Blood Pressure

High blood pressure runs on both sides of my family. I had my surgery early in the morning, and later that night, my blood pressure was very high (doctor said it was unusually high even for surgery). They gave me a pill to bring it down (sorry don't remember the name of it). It when down a little and then it went right back up (even higher). They decided to give me a medication by needle to hurry it up through my system and get my blood pressure down faster. I asked the nurse three times 'is the needle going to hurt'? I hate needles. It didn't even feel the needle (thank goodness). I made an appointment to see my doctor regarding my blood pressure. I checked it at the store (one of those machines) the other day, and it was 144/89 (which is much lower than when I was in the hospital).
