insomnia, head cold

Hi friends,

I am writing in the midst of yet another bout of insomnia. Am approaching 5 weeks post-op and am doing pretty well otherwise, but still can't get enough Zzzzzzz's. I know we've been writing about sleepy ovaries, etc., and I do think this is part of my problem, but I am not able to do HRT of any kind due to past experience with thrombosis. I think anxiety about not sleeping is also making the insomnia worse. Anyone have experience with a 25mg dosage of Trazadone? My doctor prescribed some -- have taken it a few times; but not having ever taken a sleep aid before (Tylenol PM makes me way too groggy for way too long), I feel weird taking it much. Any insights, anyone?

Also, am getting a head cold so I started taking vitamin C. I really don't want to be coughing a lot. Any advice on how to handle a cough if the cold really settles in?

All best,
Julyop

insomnia, head cold

Hi,
I think the insomnia drives everyone around the bend. Last time I had surgery my dr suggested that I just not worry about "when" I slept, and just go with the flow. that's ok if you actually do get to sleep at some point.
I have no experience with the med you are talking about, but you could try half of one and see what it does....

I've tried camomille tea, which is fine for relaxing (my problem then is that I usually have to get up and pee!!! sigh).

I really hope you don't get a cough - I've had some tickles deep in my throat and I've used lozenges to help calm it and avoid a cough.... I've only really coughed once and yup it felt awful - in theory holding a pillow (actually I think it would have to be CLUTCHING FIERCELY) over your tummy can reduce some of the stress.

good luck
Cheryl
