subtotal hyst with appendix removal
I am 10 days post-op subtotal hyst. with appendix removal. I was released from the hospital same day and returned one week later with numerous complaints, mainly bowel problems, not constipation, but the complete opposite, also was put on flagyl for 10 days as an anti-infective. I was given an abdominal x-ray and ultra sound to check for bowel obstruction, all tests, including blood/urine (for infection) returned negative. Now that it has been ten days, and I was told I'd feel great in less than a week I am concerned, because, I am having pains in my upper abdominal area (left side near rib cage) spleen? and also some peripheral neuropathy, primarily, right leg, and foot. (pain, tingles, numbness) none of this seems to be gyno related, I am still week, and would describe abdomen as tender compared to painful as of last week. Should I call my surgeon back to complain, my primary care doc. or just wait and see.

subtotal hyst with appendix removal
Hi jlpierce,
I need to preface my reply by saying that whenever you are in doubt, you need to ask your doctor's advice.
The guidelines I was given were that if things were gradually improving, this was usually an acceptable recovery. However, if things were getting worse, with more pain, more fever etc, then they wanted to know right away. Sometimes we expect too much, and our expectations may be encouraged by very optimistic doctors. A week to feel "great" would be a miracle judging from the experience of most ladies here, even if you had an LSH.
If you have nerve symptoms, I would go back to your surgeon and let them know. There might be something they can do, or somebody the could send you to. My GYN is also a pain expert, and thinks I may have an ilioinguinal neuropathy, and we are trying Lidoderm patches.
Overall, it sounds like a discussion with your surgeon would be a good option!
