Kept Ovaries and Still Need Lube...Anyone Else???

Hi Ladies,

I had a TAH/kept ovaries on 8/5. Today is 7 weeks. While I haven't been released yet for intercourse (I have my doctor's appt tomorrow) my dbf and I have been having a little bit of fun. I did notice that I am not getting good lubrication naturally and am concerned that when we do get cleared for intercourse I will need lube. I thought if I kept my ovaries I wouldn't need lube.

Do you think they are still not awake yet from surgery?? I also took Lupron for 3 months prior and needed lube then. Should I have my doctor test me for hormones yet or wait a while and see if they revive on their own. Other than that I feel ok. I do get the occassional hot flush and for a while I was irritable but that has done away now too.

Any advice from my favorite ladies????

Thnx!!

Hi Traci!

Yes, somethmes the ovaries do need some time to recover from surgery. It might be a good idea to have your doctor check your hormone levels to see how the ovaries are functioning.

I had my surgery about 20 months ago, I kept both ovaries. My ovaries have continued to function really good. However, I have noticed that at certain times of the month (about the time I would have normally gotten a period) my body does not seem to have enough lubrication and we need to use some KY jelly. I guess we never noticed this before because usually during the week I had my period we didn't have sex so I wouldn't have noticed the lubrication difference. Now that I don't get periods and all days are "free days" sometimes we notice.
For the most part we don't need lubrication but there are some occasional times we do. It might be good to keep some on hand just in case.

I had my tah in 2000 and kept ovaries....from the time I was released to have intercourse I have had to use KY.....no self lube at all...had bso (ovaries removed 5 1/2 weeks ago) and on hrt, had intercourse a few days ago and still needed the KY.......Hubby says that its because theres nothing there to produce the lube anymore

Just keep your bedroom stocked with KY....I think I should own stock in KY now.....lol

You are at 7 weeks and haven't been cleared yet? My doc said I was OK to resume *all* activities at 4 weeks.

It is always interesting how different the post-op instructions can be. Nonetheless, follow what your doc tells you.

I have had no problems whatsoever ... and I still have both ovaries. I had bad PMS before surgery, but now *every* day is a good day!

Good luck to you

Hi Hokie5,

Yes I have not been cleared yet at 7 weeks, but that is partly due to the fact that my Dr. was on vacation for 10 days and I think when I would have normally have gone and hopefully been cleared she wasn't there. So I am going tomorrow and both myself and my dbf are REALLY hoping that I am cleared.

I will keep KY Jelly on hand and I will speak to my Dr. about my ovaries and maybe have her test me.

Thnx again ladies!!!!!!
