What pain control did you have after your surgery?
I am just curious who had a pca pump, who had epidural relief etc. I had an epidural for the surgery. Was told I had something called deramorph (I can't find a single thing for this so if you have any info please post) inserted into my epidural for pain management. This was supposed to last me 24 hours. It didn't. I was then tried on 2 tylenol 3, nothing, teradol through my IV, worked very well, then teradol by mouth, did not work at all. Finally, 2 vicodin and 800mg of Motrin, took the edge off.
I feel like I was gyped out of pain meds. When I had my c-section I had a spinal. The spinal lasted a good 12-13 hours so I had no pain. Then I was on a pca pump with demerol. The nurses were wonderful and encouraged me to medicate to stay ahead of the pain. Things were so different then. I came home on day 4 and I truly was comfortable. I took pain meds for a couple of days after but then I was fine and didn't need anything.
I feel like I have been in pain for 8 days now. I am still on vicodin and motrin and feel guilty. I don't know why I hurt so much. I don't want to call and complain. I want to be "tough" and that's the last thing I feel. I feel wimpy and I hate admitting it!
Anyway, just curious of your pain regimine.

What pain control did you have after your surgery?
Cindy,
I had an epidural for my TAH/BSO in January. They gave me PCA's (administered through my epi) up untill day 4 when they finally took the epi out. After that they gave me vicodin orally every 4 hours for pain and though it didn't completely do away with the pain it certainly took alot of the edge off. Once I was released from hospital on day 7 they gave me Tylenol 3's for pain control at home. Mind you they didn't give me many so to conserve the T3's for when the pain was really bad I ended up getting Tylenol #1's (which you can get up here in Canada through a pharmacist) or just over the counter motrin. I found the T1's of course didn't help as much as the T3's but at least it was better then nothing.
I will say this though, although the PCA was kind of nice through the epi (and I think the epi itself blocked alot) I was never so happy to get that darn thing out of my back I tell you! The tape they used ended up g iving me the worst rash and I was itchy for weeks!

Yes I agree with you palmer...the epidural halped alot and after day 3 they took it out and I been having blisters where it was taped down at, finally I am what 10 post-op and now the blisters are gone, and just getting rid of the scabbing, other than thatI can't remember what was in the epidural, but it worked, and was sent home after 3 day in the hospital with oxycodone and motrin 800.....

What pain control did you have after your surgery?
I had pain medication administered via an epidural. They told me it would last approximately 24 hours post-surgery. I kept waiting for the pain to kick in. It never did. I was uncomfortable, so each time I wanted something they gave me something different to see if it worked. I was sent home with Motrin and Darvocet. I took the Darvocet at bedtime, Motrin during the day. I eventually went to just Darvocet at bedtime. Within a week, I stopped it all. For me, the hysterectomy was amazingly painless!

What pain control did you have after your surgery?
I had a morphine pump and Toradol thru my IV the first night. They took the pump and the IV away Saturday morning and then it was nothing but 800 mg Ibuprofen. I was told to take that or Aleve at home. After a week or so though, the Ibuprofen gave me really bad gas pains and I switched to Tylenol, which worked fine for me.
Good luck to all the newly crowned princesses who are searching for good pain relief.

What pain control did you have after your surgery?
I had the pain pump in the hospital after surgery until about 2pm or so the afternoon the following day. Percocet in the hospital (1 or 2 tabs) and percocet or motrin at home.
I'm 10 days post-op and still use the percocet from time to time, usually take an 800mg dose of motrin after beakfast.
Pain was awful in the hospital but hasn't been too bad at home.

What pain control did you have after your surgery?
I had a demerol pump until about noon the day after surgery. It was great. After that was removed, I had percocet tablets. They also did the job. I was never in any great pain...uncomfortable a few times, but never in pain.
I was lucky enough to be off the percocet by 2 weeks and taking just Aleve, but if I overdo it, I still take a percocet.

What pain control did you have after your surgery?
i had epi started in surgery suite, bp got too low, so they used 2 small shots of morphine after surgery(hated it) then they started the epi again, not sure what they used in it but oh my i was in NO pain while it was in. 24 hours later they stopped the epi and i went to toradol every 4 hours alternated with tylenol3 every four hours so all in all was pretty pain free in the castle, at home not too bad although they only let me have 15 tylenol3.

What pain control did you have after your surgery?
Hello Princesses:
This is really weird, but I don't remember taking any meds once I was released from the castle. They tried percoset when I first came out of the operating room.... did not work, They finally hooked me up with some morphine and life was good. I had the pump for about 24 hours. That came out and then I don't remember getting anything else. Perhaps 2 Mortrin while I was in the castle. The nurse even commented on the fact that I wasn't really using my pump. I still have the Mortrin from last year. I just threw them away. I can honesty say that I don't remember having any pain once I came home. Except for the !!! Whew now that was horrible!!!
