Dumb/gross question about no panties in castle
Just very curious that a few people have posted that they wore no panties in hospital because of catheter and IV. So how did they deal with any (how do I say this without being gross?) ... leakage?
When I woke up from biopsy surgery, I had similar situation, but I was outpatient. Needless to say, everyone was scrambling to find my panties when I needed to get up to use restroom. (Hospital gave me a pad but no way to keep it in place ..)
Sorry about being graphic, but who else can you ask these questions?

Dumb/gross question about no panties in castle
Hi Janet,
When I was in earlier this month for my fibroid they used maternity pads on the bed (these are a life saver! I wish I would have had them the past couple of months of heavy bleeding) and they would give you these industrial size pads that you held between your legs.
Believe me, you get to a point where you don't even care any more. LOL You become numb to all the things that you would normally worry about at home, they've seen it all. Just work on getting yourself well and leave the leakage problems to the experts. LOL

Dumb/gross question about no panties in castle
Hi Janet,
From my experience, I didn't put any panties on until it was time to go home. They will probably put a "chux" pad on your bed to protect and absorb any leakage, and that "leakage" shouldn't be that much when you do get up to move around. I found initially to be much more comfortable without as I had a TVH and there was some swelling and irritation.
Hope that helps.

Dumb/gross question about no panties in castle
Janet,
I didn't need a pad on day 2 and barely needed it on day 1. I found the mesh panties to be less than comfy, so I didn't wear any I still go commando here at home when nobody's around...figure it's good for the incision to let air get to it. Doc agreed that it wouldn't hurt a bit.

Dumb/gross question about no panties in castle
Thanks MareSINY ... I guess it will be different this time since there will be catheter. Last time, I was outpatient and holy cow did I need to get up and use the restroom BIG TIME in recovery (all those fluids from IV start moving FAST!).
(Husband was a little surprised at my acrobatics and lack of worry about exposing the back side when I tried to get up juggling the pad/no panties/no clothes except hospital gown 20 minutes after coming to from general anesthesia.)

Thanks to all! (Was wondering how I could perfect my penguin waddle, but sounds like I won't need to worry!)

Dumb/gross question about no panties in castle
Yes, I had a chux pad as well. I ws never even offered regular pads! Whenever my doctor or the residents came to check my incision, they would pull the blankets down, lift my gown up, and then pull the blankets back up a little to give me some privacy. I could have cared less though! At that point they could have let the world see my crotch!
Good luck!

Dumb/gross question about no panties in castle
The first day I was so stoned I didn't give a d***. I noticed when they took out the catheter and got me up there was blood on the pad in the bed and blood on the back of the gown, but heck, I've had "accidents" when I stood up before and the pad couldn't handle it that made a worse mess! Then they gave me the mesh disposable panties and a stick on pad and that was fine. Didn't even need the pad after the second day. Today is the first day home, I'm in my larger panties I had bought and started with a pantiliner but there's nothing staining so I just have on my regular undies. I did put on my old maternity shorts just to be comfy but this swelly belly is slightly different than the big lopsided mass that was there before. Later when it cools off I'll probably use the adjustable waist slacks I bought from the Penney's catalog that adjust up to 5 inches. Bought those last year when I kept gaining weight. They make skirts like that too.
Modesty goes out the window real quick with this kind of surgery, just like with childbirth!

Dumb/gross question about no panties in castle
I agree with Unicorn Lady about modesty going out the window. When I was in last they wheeled me into recovery with lots of men and women laying on beds around me, didn't bother pulling the curtain around me, and stripped off my gown. They left me lying there naked for a minute while they got a new gown ready. Hopefully all the other patients were too out of it to notice, but I noticed. LOL I also reached the point where I didn't care who looked at my hooha. I went from being petrified of seeing a gyno to having the whole world examine me. By the time I was released I was able to spread 'em for anyone who wanted a peak. LOL
