How long do you plan on taking HRT?

I had a TAH/BSO in Dec. 2001 and was first on Estratest, then changed to the Climara patch and now I'm on the Vivelle Dot .5 and progesterone cream. I have my good days and bad and have thought about just stopping (of course by tapering off). Then again, since I'm 48 I figure I should maybe stay on them for a few years. Geez ... what to do ... what to do.

How long do you plan on taking HRT? Thanks for your input.

How long do you plan on taking HRT?

Hi plum, honestly whenever I find the right one for me geeezzz I plan on staying on it at least for five years. After having 8 mos of my mental and physical body go haywire due to no estrogen I feel I will take it as long as I need it. But my girlfriend who had a full hysterectomy 5 years ago and was on premarin just got off it and is doing great, so thats why I hope the 5 year mark. Dont be afraid of it my mom and lots of other women have been on it for YEARS!!!
Peace and Love

Hi,

I am 53 and just had my surgery in March. I would like to be on it for a couple of years. I am on .1 vivelle dot (the highest dosage) and would at least like to be on a lower dosage in a year or two or maybe the lowest for the rest of my years. It depends if I can do that. If I am miserable there is no way I'm getting off.

My dr said I could take it as long as I want. It also depends on what the Women's study comes up with in 2005 or before, which is testing estrogen only.

How long do you plan on taking HRT?

I asked my GYN this very question and he said I can stay on it the rest of my life if I want. Knowing how I am without it and how life is with it, he said it is a quality of life issue - so true! Unless there is definitive proof that it is totally harmful, I'm sticking with my compounded hormones.

How long do you plan on taking HRT?

I'm 48 and Hoping for 5 years or less, but i'm only 3 month post op and haven't even gotten the magic potion right yet, so in reality, who knows?
It's a "quality of life issue" for me and once I find what combination works I'll stick with it.

How long do you plan on taking HRT?

I'm 40 now and had my TAH/BSO at the age of 36 which puts me right at 4 years on hrt. I have no plans in the near future to stop. I know how I felt when I was unbalanced and to be honest, I am afraid to change anything. Not sure if my dh could go thru that again.

I go for my mammogram on Monday and if that is okay, I plan on keeping everything staus quo.

How long do you plan on taking HRT?

I'm 33 yrs old and I had a TAH/BSO on the 15th of this month and was started on the Climera patch in the hospital and went to VIVELLE-DOT .1MG PATCH once I came home. That first week that I was home was a nightmare! I was driving hubby and kids crazy along with myself. Doc told me to give the Vivelle time and that my body just went thru something major. The next week I was back to my old self again. I do NOT plan on stopping my hrt anytime soon especially not if it will be like what I went thru that first week. So far the Vivelle is doing it's job and I will stay on it as long as I need it.

How long do you plan on taking HRT?

Hi I am 26 and am 3 months postop. I am still trying to find a balance ( up down up down up) . My doc told me that on my 40th birthday I would take my last pill. Maybe by then I will find the right balance!! My question to yall is how long does it take to find balance? My life is so hectic with work, two kids, a small business (starting), school, and married life. Can all of this cause my hrt to stay out of whack? Is it only possible to balance out the hrt if you are steady and constant with the use of adrenaline? One month I feel like I need more estro and then the next one I feel like I have too much, could you need more one month and not the next? Just askin'! Thanks for any input.
