Prolapsing Princesses?!

Is anyone else suffering serious prolapse probs? I have second degree uterine prolapse (cervix is out of vagina most of time)and it is sooo uncomfortable that i find I have to 'tuck it in' before I sit down. This is fine in the comfort of your own home but what about when you're in a restaurant, on a bus or at a friends home?Does anyone else have this or am I a rare prolapsing princess?!
Keep smiling.TVH scheduled for 17th October. Can't wait to get some comfort.

Oh, Cheryl,

I'm so sorry that your prolapse is so severe - I had my hyst done for the same reason, but mine wasn't as bad as yours. One suggestion - could your doctor fit you with a pessary just for the next couple of weeks?

I hope others have some additional suggestions. Please keep us posted.

Prolapsing Princesses?!

My surgeries were done solely to correct prolapses - uterine, baldder, rectum. I'd always been an active person, so when the prolapses began to hinder my daily activities, I opted for surgery. (Believe me! I was running out of excuses to people - even my husband - why I could no longer do routine or fun activities! You just can't tell someone that your insides are coming out!!!) There are many princesses that understand what you are going through.

One word of advice: When one organ is prolapsed, you are more at risk for other prolapses (bladder + rectum). Have your physician check for other prolapses BEFORE your surgery. There are a number of us that have undergone a second surgery because of physician "neglect". You really only want to have ONE surgery, so make sure you know everything that needs to be fixed!

Wishing you good health,
Kajsa

Prolapsing Princesses?!

I too had severe prolapse, and found out the hard way that you are also more likely to have your vagina prolapse after the initial surgery(TVH + Burch and posterior repair) if you don't have it properly repaired. My vagina prolapsed within weeks of my initial surgery. The second surgeon said that he would have used mesh to repair me the first time had he done the original surgery. The surgery he did was called a sacrocopoplexy I think... I actually had two of those fail also... the first one within three weeks and the second one at three months when I tried to move something that was too heavy. I finally went to a DR that specializes in reconstruction and am now 4 mos. post op and doing well! I am finally cleared to do all activities, but I am going slow. The last surgeon said that I have more mesh in me than any other patient he's ever done. Not a great claim to fame, but if it works, I'm grateful! Please be sure that your DR is skilled in reconstruction! That's my two cents worth! I'll be praying for you.

Prolapsing Princesses?!

blkisue,

What are the symptoms of the vaginal prolapsing after surgery? I had a rectocle, cytocele, enterocele, and stress incontinnce. How will I know if my vagina is prolapsing?

Thanks.

Prolapsing Princesses?!

I'd also like to know what the symtoms of vaginal prolapse are. My surgery was on 9-2 and I sometimes feel like something is not in the right place especially if I have been busy.

I did have uterine prolapse, but not to the point where it was uncomfortable or had pulled anything else out of place. My dr said that once they put me under and I was completely relaxed that my uterus almost fell out. I understand that once you have one thing prolapse that you have a greater chance of having another area prolapse.

Prolapsing Princesses?!

Dear Cheryl,

My surgery was done because of prolapses.

As others have said, when one thing goes then you're prone for it all to go eventually. My uterus fell and then took the bladder and rectum along for the ride. Not fun I reached a point when it was interfering with my life and I was ready for whatever recovery would entail. I did have to post-pone for 6 months because my then 10yo dd became critically ill, but fortunately she healed enough for me to go forward w/ my Sept 3rd surgery.

Its liberating to be able to caugh/sneeze/laugh and NOT pee my pants LOL I am starting to see glimmers of the future and it looks good

A pessary is a good idea, if it's an option for you. Definately ask your dr as they can help many women. It wasn't an option for me, but everyone is different.

I'm sorry I can't be more helpful, but will keep you in my thoughts and prayers that things will be better for you very soon.

Thanks for all the responses so far to this thread - i'm glad i'm not alone! I did ask doc about pessary but he said it can damage things (not sure what things!)and make surgery more difficult when they get to it. He also seemed unsure that it would help in my case.
As for possible future prolapses - thanks ladies for the warning! I will ask about this at my pre-op appointment .
Great to know that NHS looked after you so well Mary, that is at least one thing to relax about.
Here's hoping all holds up!!

Hey Cheryl,

By any chance do you use a diaphragm for birth control? If so, you can use this for support as well! I hated the pessaries I was given but loved my diaphragm. I used it for EVERYTHING! I haven't used a pad or tampon in over 2 years because I used my diaphragm during my period. It was great.

Just a suggestion.
