Belly band question

I read a ot about belly binders when in pre-op, so I went a bought a maternity belly band before going to the hospital. I have not started using it yet because I don't want to do anything that might hurt my incision. I had a TAH on 9/16/03. Is it okay to use the binder at this time, or should I wait a few more weeks. Will it help to hold in my tummy muscles to lesson the stain on my incision. So far I feeling really good except for a few pains (mainly on my left ised)and dificulty doing a BM. I have been religiosly waliking since the day after surgery, and made my first walk around the block last night.

Belly band question

I don’t know about the belly binder but your BM problem I can relate to. My MD told me not to use a laxatives if I can at all help it so what I did and still doing is 1 stool softener a day since I been home and I started that since 2 days post up and my 3 day post up I did my first BM and since my MD didn’t want me to push I haven’t had to since and I have at least 1 BM a day.

Hope this helps

Connie

PS: and the walking is what really seemed to also help me out and I walk a great deal more now.

Belly band question

Did you ask your DR if you can wear your binder? I also had a TAH with a vertical incision and my DR put my binder on after the surgery. I wore it for 4 1/2 weeks because I felt more comfortable wearing it. It also helped when I started walking because my belly didn't feel heavy. That thing was a life saver.

Remember to take your time while walking and do NOT over do it.

Best wishes to you and a speedy recovery.
