Labia pain from TVT (bladder sling) anyone?

Hi Sissy's,
I'm just wondering if anyone out there has had a TVT (Bladder Sling with Prolene Mesh) with their Hysterectomy. I had a LAVH/BSO along with this procedure 7 weeks ago. tom. 10/1/03 and am still experiencing one-sided labial pain, swelling and discomfort. There is no redness or drainage and the other side of my labia is fine (even though there are 3 puncture sites with that one). This area is apparently where the Prolene tape comes out that is holding up the bladder. I've been telling my doctor since the first week visit. His first explanation was that,"It's a very vascular area there and there probably is a hematoma developed that causes the pain." At my 6 week check up his comment was,"well we have to use a curved needle to get around that pubic bone and it probably got too close to the bone."
I went back to work Monday. I had a 10 hr. phone assignment job. Wow, every time I had to stand up my labia felt like it was on fire with pins and needles on that one side. Couldn't get ahold of my doc. This is a fairly new procedure and I'm wondering if I'm just getting whimpy and need to give it more time. I'd appreciate hearing from any of you ladies who've had this done. I'm pondering getting another opinion, but I have to get a referral for my insurance coverage and that can be a hassle sometimes. And when the ice pack starts melting down there your sitting in a puddle at work! Just kidding, but I wanted to do that. Thanks for your help.

Labia pain from TVT (bladder sling) anyone?

Hi Mary,

I didn't have a bladder procedure done, but I wanted to encourage you to be persistent with your Dr. in reporting your symptoms as you have been doing. Your Dr. may be right in that it will just take some more time, but it sounds very painful and I can imagine that it must be difficult to concentrate and work while this is going on.

A second opinion is often a good thing to get another perspective. If you feel that your Dr. may not be looking at all of your options regarding the cause of this ongoing pain, then by all means contact your insurance for a referral for a second opinion.

I hope that you begin to feel better very soon!

Best wishes and s

Labia pain from TVT (bladder sling) anyone?

I had the procedure and at 5 weeks I developed a hematoma near my episiotomy which causes the pain.

The pubic area is still pretty swollen a well and my doctor said that for the pubic area the ends of the tape are acclimating with the tissue and is causing the swelling, as for the hematoma he said it will eventually go away and I'm to do sitz bath's until it goes away.

If it's not one thing it's another!

Labia pain from TVT (bladder sling) anyone?

Hello, I know what you are talking about. I had the same exact thing done on 4/29/03. I was so swollen and red there in the labia area. It does get better. I dont have leakage problems anymore. But I do know that after a BM the burning sensation in the urethra area kills me. That has gotten better also. But when in doubt always, always ask your doctor or get a second opinion.

Good Luck

TVT

I hope that you get that second opinion. A doctor should listen very closely to what you are saying and try to figure out the problem. I know that my doctor has been very good at answering my questions. Yes, I have swelling and tenderness, I also can't tell that I have to urinate and am not happy with that, but I understand it does get better. Keep us informed. I'll keep you in my thoughts.

SOMEONE HOLDING A MATCH TO MY SKIN AND BURNING ME. COULD NOT WALK AT ALL BROUGHT ME TO TEARS. CALLED THE DOC THOUGHT IT WAS A HEMATOMA DID A CT AND ALSO X-RAY OF THE PUBIC AREA. ALL WAS NEGATIVE. I WAS TOLD THAT IT WAS NERVE INJURY FROM SURGERY. I HOPE AND PRAY THAT THIS WILL GO AWAY.

Hi Mary,

I had LAVH, one ovary removed, bladder sling and repairs to cystocele and rectocele. I still have drainage, good and bad days but no pain to one side. Love, ((((STITCHER))))

Labia pain from TVT (bladder sling) anyone?

I had a TVT along with TVH, anterior & posterior repair on 9/5. Still have some tenderness over the pubic bone and a bit of swelling where the punctures were for the sling. Any pressure on the pubic bone is a bit uncomfortable. Nothing as bad as you describe but there has to be a lot of variation. A second opinion from someone who does the procedure would be a good idea.

They told me to use ice for a couple of days for the swelling, them change to heat since cold would decrease the amount of swelling but heat would help it to reabsorb. Would check with your doc tho if (s)he told you to use cold. Sitting for so long can't be good but don't know how you could elevate those parts at work! (Just had a really detailed image of someone lying on the floor with their lower legs on the chair talking on the phone!)

No more leaking with coughs or sneezes but the urine stream is definitely different! Takes longer to empty my bladder. My doc said that the swelling effecting the stream wouldn't be completely gone for at least three months so not to be too excited about it. It is getting better day by day.

Good luck. Hope you feel better.

Labia pain from TVT (bladder sling) anyone?

I just love you ladies!!!
Thanks for all your advise and moral support. Well, today I went up to the OB dept. that's connected to the clinic where I work. they have these nifty little (well actually huge) sanitary pads that when activated turn into an insulated ice pack. No wet puddle to sit in today!! Only relief and comfort from the long hours. Wish I would have known about those on Monday! Anyway, they made it tolerable. Then I come home and sit in the whirlpool for about 40 minutes and go to bed by 8:00 pm. I've got an appt. to see a new Dr. 10/17/03. Thanks for caring and giving me that direction. It is so hard for me to complain. That's why I find my strength in you. God bless all of you 's.
