Nervous about surgery

Hi, I am having surgery on October 21. I am probably having TVH-BSO but won't know until I wake up as to how it was done!!!! I have endometriosis and did Lupron therapy for 6 months. 6 weeks after my last shot my symptons came back even worse!!!! Based on how lousy I have been feeling for the last few months, I am hoping that the hysterectomy helps!
I am trying not to dwell on the impending surgery, but I think I am underestimating the recovery period.
I am more concerned about something going wrong on the operating table - that is my biggest fear right now, My dh has been extremely supportive. He only wants for me to feel better.
Should I expect to be out of work 4 weeks or longer? My boss wants me to work from home after the 2nd week - will I be ready? I am starting to get nervous.........

Nervous about surgery

No working from home at two weeks is a little much to expect, even from the best of us. I am two weeks post from TAH/BSO and I still can't sit for too long.

Recovery is usually 6 to 8 weeks initially but could take up to a full year to be completely healed.

The brain fog alone will leave you wondering if you remembered to put onyour deoderant let alone something important for work.

You only get one chance to heal, do it right and take the time you are intitled too.

Nervous about surgery

I think we are all nervous before our surgeries to some extent. I know I was... but I made it... now 10 days post-op. From what I am feeling now, I can't see going back to work at 2 weeks post op. I am just starting to putter around, have made supper 2 days in a row... that felt like an accomplishment, I find I get tired very quickly, and sitting for any length of time is not comfortable.

My thoughts and prayers will be with you...Becka

Nervous about surgery

Hi,

You are going to need bare minimum of 4 weeks for tvh. They usally figure 4-6 weeks for TVH and 6-8 for TAH. It's not the external stuff you have to be as concerned about, but the internal stitches and work that is done. Another thing you need to realize is that most of us don't start off at 100% health when we go in for our surgery...so we're starting off at a disadvantage in the first place.

One of the wiser sisters said here that you only have one chance to heal correctly. She's right. Do not do anything to jeopardize your healing and future health.

If the boss gives you a problem, a note from the doctor to HR should take care of it.

Nervous about surgery

Hey there Jeryjomast ( had to give us a tough name huh? )
s and Welcome

NONONONONONONO

You will not be able to work from home at 2 weeks. Your boss is very unfair to ask this of you. You'll be sitting up for more time than it takes to tinkle by then but that's about all!

You can forget mountain climbing, cross country sking, and sale days a JC Penney. Get your Christmas shopping done before your surgery...

And if you give this boss an inch he/she will stretch it into a whole 8 hours!!!

What is your boss a neanderthol? This isn't something realitively minor like a root canal. This is really major- there are a Zillion blood vessles that have to be cut and tied off and ligaments to be rearranged and all that gunk they are taking out. Yikes!

Seriously, you will only have one chance to heal right- take it.
Don't let them push you back to work until you are really ready.
And all the Sisters will stand behind you supporting your decision to heal right.

We'll be here to offer support, hugs, and understanding.

And you are soooo normal to be anxious. It is the gals who say they aren't that worry me.

Nervous about surgery

i'm 11 weeks post from a tvh/a&p repairs/cystocele and rectocele repairs.....from my experience, i would have been able to work part time from home at 2 weeks post, as long as there was enough time for breaks: ie-stretching your legs, resting with feet up for a few minutes, being able to walk around either outside or in the house, etc.....ONLY YOU will be able to know how much YOU will be able to do post-op..DON'T let anyone tell you any different...if its an issue with your supervisor about you starting back to work BEFORE you're up to it, get your Dr involved--he/she can write you a note for medical leave stating when you CAN return to work and for how long.
