I'm so lost!

Hi everyone,

I had my ovaries removed July 21st of this year and the doctor put me on premarin 1 week after my surgery. I have been taking the premarin and some calcium faithfully now.
The problem is that the past month and a half I've been happy, sad, crying, irritable, confused, can not concentrate, feel as things are crawling up my legs, forgetful, depressed and every joint in my body hurts. I told my doctor about it and his response was that I needed to go on prozac!! I think maybe I need more estrogen. I take 0.625 of premarin every day. I feel as I'm going crazy!! I feel energetic and at times I feel as If I can even raise my hand!! My family and my marriage is sufering!! I'm desperate and dont know what to do! I have no desire for sex either and my husband as been patient but for how long. I'm very scared because I have never felt this way before!! So out of control! Please guide me and help!!

I'm so lost!

sorry you are having a rough time here is a for you.it is just awful when things happen and the doctors will not listen. i know, been there myself.Just because i have 1 ovary they kept telling me my hormones were fine.i had my thyroid checked 4 times and my fsh levels checked 3 times and each time they both came back normal.i was ready to give up. i had been on 4 different anti-depressants because my dr said i had depression. i finally went back to my gyn who did my surgery and she suggested climara even though my levels were normal. i have been on it for a little over a month now and except for my hair falling out and sore breasts i finally feel like a normal person. my poor husband didn't know how to act around me but he says now he can see a difference. i hope so! if one dr will not listen keep trying to find one who will.i found that my gyn(woman) understands me better than a male doctor so other than sickness issues i will stick with her. Good luck-janette

I'm so lost!

(((Maria)))
I am sorry that you're having a difficult time right now. If you feel that your doctor is not being very helpful perhaps you could find a doctor who is a bit more knowledgeable about hormones. What you are going thru right now could most certainly be due to a hormonal imbalance. Hormones are not a one size fits all and it is not unusual for our hormonal needs to shift over time. This is especially true during the first six months to a year after the hyst.

Have you read the articles at www.hormonejungle.com ? I would like to point out the supplements you should be taking http://www.hystersisters.com/vb2/hsa...hp?s=&id=97237 The supplements really helped me to finally find some consistancy to my balance. I would feel great one day and than it was like someone pulled the rug out from under my feet.

I'm so lost!

Maria,
You're welcome! I am a true believer in the supplements. It took a friend beating me over the head to finally make me realize how important they are. They really have made a difference for me.

I buy all my supplements separately. I know it can be a pain, but I bought one of those 7 day pill containers. It has 4 slots for each day (I only use two) but I grab all my bottles every Sunday and divvy out all my supplements for the week. In the morning I grab my container and a glass of water and I am good to go. I do the same thing after dinner in the evenings.

I have a very sensitive tummy so I use Calcium Citrate. It is more easily absorbed and is gentler on the tummy. I buy most of my supplements at Wal Mart. They have a brand called Spring Valley that is relatively inexpensive compared to some of the name brands.

Here's a thread with some good tips on what to look for in a Calcium supplement http://www.hystersisters.com/vb2/sho...threadid=62697 I tested the Spring Valley brand using the tips in this thread and it passed! I like the B-6 as they have it in 50mg. I had a hard time finding the 50mg with other brands.

Good luck! Do keep us posted on how you're doing. The is always on in the jungle.

I'm so lost!

Maria!
My doctor started me on premarin 0.625 just after my hyst back in June, even after expressing my hesitation to take premarin (after reading all the info here on bio-identicals).

I felt very much the way you describe...I hardly recognized myself and could not imagine living day to day in such a state!
So I took it upon myself to research what hormones were available here in India and found Estragel ( bio-indentical b17-estradiol gel).
Within 3 days of switching, I felt like myself again! I was amazed at the difference.....the confusion, crying, and that awful "buzz" dissapeared! I really started to feel GOOD! Still do! Bio-indenticals give good energy!

(((However after a month or so, I started to feel puffy and my breast started to get sore. (This site has been a life saver for me out here on the subcontinent!) Progesterone cream is not availble here....so after finding micronized natural progesterone (I open 100mg gelcap and mix with 1/2 tspoon apricot oil and rub 1/8 of a tspoon on my breasts daily.....and cut back the estragel slightly) and that did the trick! The libido is much better, tho not 100%, and the bloating and soreness stopped!))))

You should try to find a doctor who will prescribe bio-indenticals for you. I know premarin works beautifully for some women, but what you describe sounds to me like my experience with it.
Good luck in this jungle!

Thank-you sparky!

Thank-you so very much for your reply!
It was a great way to start my morning!
I have been so down latetly and I've been thinking that maybe it was all in my head and maybe I should be taking the prozac!
I'm glad I came here!!
I have been batteling with this since they took my Uterus out in 2001! This July 21 of 2003 they took out my ovaries and everything else they could find
And I've been feeling worse!
Ive been taking the premarin since the week after my surgery and to no avail!
I was taking it at night and the doctor said maybe that is why I was feeling sick and then 1 week ago I started taking it days!
I feel worse! I feel dizzy, headaches, tired, confused I just can not concentrate and my memory has gone down the drain!(thats the scary part)
So I thank-you very much for all your great advice!
I made an appoinment with another doctor today and I will keep you posted!
Lots of Hugs and blessings

Went to the doctors today!

Went to my appoinment today and I did convince him to do a hormone blood check. But he told me that hormones are hormones and premarin is good and the others are pretty much the same. He said that I probably had Anxiety attacks(You bet I do with all this ---- goin on with my body)and I should go on prozac or Zoloft for a while. He does not think is hormonaly related!!
I have a health food store here in my little town and I have decided that maybe I should stop taking Hormones all together and go for a herbal remedies instead!!
I'm frustrated and my family is even more with me!!
I hate myself right now and I feel so out of control with all this.
I want to stay positive but I hate the way I feel.
Any suggestions on herbal remedies.
I did post on the No HRT message board!
Thank-you for all your help.

Maria
