Came home from the castle 2 days ago . . .

I wanted to let some of you know what I experienced. I was unusually calm that day, surgery took place at 1:00 on October 6 w/general anestesia(sp?)

I opted for the morphine pump for pain management - this stuff was great! No side effects. The day after, I ate little, didn't get sick, however, really didn't have an appetite. It took awhile to void after they removed the cathetar (sp?) When they threatened to put it in again, my body decided to cooperate.

I was up and walking around the floor the very next day. The nurses laughed that I was determined to get out by whatever means necessary. I learned to push my little button just minutes before getting up to walk and with great ease I was able to get up and walk without a problem.

I came home Wednesday (2-days after surgery) and not to soon.
To bad I couldn't bring that wonderful device home, by Thursday all traces of morphine and anestesia (sp?) . . . were long gone. I actually felt full fledge pain. My dd asked that I walk each day, as he explained this will help me heal. I've walked around my yard each day w/dh help - after which I can't wait to come in for a nap.

I would strongly suggest that everyone invest in a heating pad and one of those bed pillows with the arms to setup with - these have really helped me.

Also, drink prune juice, take stool softeners and if necessary a laxative - you'll feel great. GAS pain is the worst.

Oh, by the way, the doctor said that my Uterus weighed 390 grams, he kept one ovary and yes, we removed the cervix due to history of dysplasia.

Welcome to the "other side", sister Princess

Glad to hear that you're recovering well and are taking good care of yourself! Sorry about that gas though - it IS the pits! It does eventually go away, but man, while you're going through it.

Take good care of yourself and remember to allow others to treat you as the princess you are!

Welcome home Ciane!
You made it home a day earlier than me...I got home Thursday.
Sounds like your recovery is going well!
I too loved the little morphine pump and was also up "walking the halls" on Tuesday. My dilemma now is I have been having great growly noises coming from my tummy but no success in having any bowel movement. So today would be day 6 with no success. I may have to try some milk of magnesia today to help but wondering how soon you had any luck?

Oh...are you having a swelly belly? I am and keep reading on these posts that this may be something I will be living with for awhile! UGGH!! I guess I wasn't prepared for this feeling of bloatiness. But time will tell I guess. Afterall, surgery was just 5 days ago so what should I expect right?
Best wishes to your continued recovery and enjoy your little "yard walks" with your DH. I think I may try walking down the street and back today but will limit it to 10-15 minutes.

Oh...you mentioned a heating pad as being very helpful. I too have one but did ask my doctor and was told to limit the use of one for periods of 15-20 minutes. She actually recommended a warm towel or something that actually will cool down (i.e those microwavable rice bags) for the tummy. I have one of those and they are so nice!

Hugs,
Lori

Hi Lori

Yes, you may want to take something to get things moving. I used correctals after trying the suppository, prune juice and stool softener. Now everything is moving fine. By the way, I don't use the heating pad for my stomach, I use it for my back, I'm having terrible back pain, after 15-20 minutes of moist heat I feel much better.

Wishing you continued success on you recovery.

A BIG
