Baths

When I came out of hospital I was told no baths only showers, to prevent the incision getting soaked and delaying healing process.
I hate showers, I'm a bubble bath freak, I miss my baths.

Anyone know how long you have to wait before you can enjoy a relaxing bath.

Love
Tilly

HI Tilly, You should check with your doctor on this. There are many different times given for how long to wait before taking a tub bath (or swimming, etc). I was told 6 weeks and was cleared at my 6 week checkup. That bath felt very good.
My doctor didn't want any water in the vagina (or anything else) as it can introduce bacteria to the newly healing tissues and cause infection.
Give your doctor a call, ask about it specifically, then follow your doctor's instructions completely.
Take care!

I had to wait 6 weeks too. When the time comes make sure DH cleans the tub! You might ask Dr about the bubbles. I still had stitches at 6 weeks. I too hate showers. It was a long wait but when the waiting is over you'll enjoy it that much more!

there are bubbles for babies that are easier on the skin -- "california baby" I think. so when you're cleared for a bath by your dr, try this brand!

Okay .. I admit it I have been very naughty ...

I am a COMPLETE BATH ADDICT .. I do bubbles, music, candles .. makes me gotta sleep (and I so suffering from INSOMNIA!).. so what I have been doing is filling the bath up with about 1 1/2 inches of water and sitting in it for a couple of minutes, feeling like luxury and heaven all rolled into one, pretending I can smell the bubble bath aroma (bubble bath is definately a no no though) and then jumping out (more like cautiously standing up and softly placing the feet over the edge of the bath, carefully onto the bath mat!!).

I spoke to the Castle before I came out and they were OK but the rules were 1. NO SOAKING FOR HOURS (Under 5 minutes is OK!) 2. NO BUBBLE BATH/SOAP

But as you say it depends on the DR .........

Thank you sisters for your helpful responses.

Checking up with Doctors is not an easy process in the UK. Our Family Doctor does not want to get involved until I have been discharged by my Gynaecologist (who performed surgery).

I only have a hospital tele number for Gynaecologist, so you get to explain chapter and verse to a nurse, who makes it very obvious she has 'sick people' to look after and asks every time 'is this urgent'. The Gynaecologist never rings me I just get a third hand diagnosis via nurse.

I'm pretty thick skinned, but even I am beginning to feel like a stalker now.

I get to see my Gynaecologist tomorrow, that's the first time I will have seen him since my Op 5 weeks ago. The appointment is scheduled for 15mins - so I'm not hopeful that much will come out of that. I have a list I really want answers to but realistically speaking by the time he has examined me, I'll be lucky to cover anything.

Best Wishes
Tilly

I'm 3 weeks post-op (tomorrow) and my dr. told me I couldn't have a bath until after my post-op exam which is on Oct. 29. My surgery was 9/23 (TAH/BSO and cervix and all points inbetween). I like showers better but I really wanted to soak, so I asked the same question. It looks like a good 6 to 8 weeks before you can put yourself in a tub. Call your doctor, though. Maybe his/her ideas are different than my doctor's. From what I've learned on here though, it seems like all the doctors are the same to me. God bless. Really, it does get better.

TillyEnglish,

My gyn told me at two weeks checkup that I could take baths, just not to stay too long and not to make the water too warm. Every Dr is different and each person's case is different. I used to live in UK so I know how hard it is to get a Dr to ring you back. Just hang in there till you get to see him I guess is the answer for you, tis only one more day! !

"BATH"

Hi TillyEnglish
I went in for my 4 week post op check up, my Dr. gave me the ok to start taking baths again ... But like some of the ladies said every Dr. has his/her own orders ... Check with the Dr. to see if you get the go ahead ..
