1st check-up

Hello everyone,
It has been a while since I have posted. As some of you may remember, a month after my TAH for Uterine Cancer my DD (age 6 1/2) was diagnosed with Leukemia, so I have been pretty busy and haven't had much time to think about myself. She is doing as well as we can hope, but now I am looking for some well wishes for me ! : 0 ) I have my 1st checkup with my GYN/ONC tomorrow. I need to go every 4 months for at least the first 2 years for exam and pap of vaginal wall.( no more cervix) I am feeling good and I hope all goes well. Is this exam like a "regular GYN exam" or am I in for any other exams that I might now be expecting???????
Take care,

1st check-up

Hi, Carine. Boy, do you have a full plate! My thoughts and prayers are with you and your daughter.

I had my first follow up visit with my gyn onc surgeon last month. (I, too, had a TAH and they found cancer in the uterus that spread to the cervix.) He did not do a PAP smear because I had radiation and I think they wait about 3 months after the radiation is completed to make sure that the tissues are all healed. Otherwise, they'd be testing on damaged tissues and that would produce skewed results. Other than that, the exam was just as you would expect. (Oh, and my doctor always takes a moment to express his pleasure at my scar. I think he's just admiring his handiwork!)

Good luck and let us know how it goes.

1st check-up

Yes, your exam will be very much like a typical annual you would have with your gyn.....
I also had endometrial ca stage 1a.
I am a little over a year post op and have graduated to exams every 6 months, instead of every 3...whew...what a relief...
I hope your daughter is doing well.... A young man who attends the church where I work at(he is about 20 now) was dx with Leukemia many years ago.....at the age of 8 or 9.....He got thru a couple rough years of treatments and recovery, but is now a thriving college student......and the picture of health. My cousins daughter was dx with Luekemia at about 2 years old is now in her late 20's and doing wonderfully.
I will keep you and your daughter in my prayers. Chris

Check up

I had my first pap smear since surgery last month and for the most part was all very much like a normal routine pelvic exam. I thougth the pap smear was more uncomfortable than before.. my doctor said it probably would be. She was right.. it was bearable though. The results came back normal. Yeah. Anyway...I find once at the doctors that it is somewhat reassuring to be there.. and to confirm everything is ok. She still tells me that it was "Major" surgery and that it takes a long time to recover. Glad to know it's not just me. Good luck with you check-up.

I hope your check up goes well and that your daughter is fine too. for some reason they don't do pelvic eams on me, only PET scans every three months, I think that's because even though my tumor was between the vagina and rectum and they think it was vaginal cancer ( squamouse cell) they aren't sure where it originated.
