Here we go again another Yeast Infection

I was diagnosed with another yeast infection yesterday. The nurse called me today and said the culture came back and showed only a yeast infection but that I had a large overgrowth of yeast. So along with the tretrazoll cream the DR prescribed 1 diflucan and then 1 more round of the tretrazoll cream. whew!

My question is do I need to adjust my estrogen? I haven't changed anything, diet, bubble bath (don't even use), detergent, etc. The only thing I've done is gone from the vivelle dot (the .1mg and .05mg used together) to bi-est liquid drops, which if I remember correctly a lessor strength than the dot. I am also using estriol/testosterone cream for vaginal dryness.

I have no discharge, odor, just burning.

I am contacting the compounding pharmacist tomorrow to get her ideas and will be calling the DR's office back to get their ideas.

Any ideas?

Also started compounded testosterone cream for low libido 14 days ago.

Hi! Sorry you're having yet another yeast infection, those can be so uncomfortable! You might be right about your estrogen being a little low, at least vaginally, and that can make you less resistant to attacks by the yeastie beasties.

Have you been on antibiotics recently? They can also contribute by killing off the 'good' bacteria in your vagina that usually help keep the yeasts in check.

It's important to re-establish a balance once you've dealt with the yeast overgrowth. There are lots of ways you can do this, but one of the easiest is to take some kind of probiotic daily. Even plain yogurt, if it contains live active cultures, can help. Also, lowering your consumption of sugars can help since that's what the yeasts thrive on. There is more information in the article on yeast infections on the post op articles page.

Finally, for some of us, using a little vaginal estrogen can be extremely helpful both in preventing vaginal dryness and atrophy, and preventing future outbreaks of yeasts... there is info on these in the Hormone Jungle article on vaginal dryness.

I hope this helps, and that you're soon feeling great again!

Yeast here too!

Hi, I also have a yeast infection that won't go away. Started symptoms a few weeks ago. Called my Dr., he called some insert of cream in for me...didn't work, then I went in to be checked - he did a culture, it was yeast, put me on another insert, Metrogel, for 1 night, still have the discharge...now he called me in 1 Diflucan pill. we'll see what that does! This is ridiculous!! If it's not one thing--it's another! Well, I guess it's all worth it to be done with those nasty periods! Good luck!! P.S. He also gave me Premarin Vag. Cream to put down there. I'm already on 2mg. of estrace every night. I'm afraid it's too much Estrogen??? Any input??

Yeast Infection

Well, I am feeling better. Tried to eliminate any excess sugars that I might have been eating. Funny thing is when I started the burning sensation, I started drinking cranberry juice thinking it was a UTI, then quit when I found out it was a yeast infection. Then Friday night drank some more cranberry juice before going to bed and woke up Saturday morning burning bad again. I checked the container and it said 100% juice, no sugar added. I've also been eating a lot more yogurt and again. Hopefull that will help.

I am on estriol vaginal cream for dryness, but am wondering if that isn't strong enough. I was on the premarin cream, but when I switched to the compounded route, I was switched to the estriol cream. Now I'm wondering if I should ask for an estriodial cream. Going to give me compounding pharmacist a call and see what she thinks.

Yeast infections are a big yuck! But I do agree with the periods statement. 17 months post op and I still get a thrill knowing I don't have to walk down the feminine hygiene aisle!

I hope this helps -- whenever I get a yeast infection (and I am very prone to them) I take acidophilus tablets. You can get them in chewable, which is what I do. It has never failed to reestablish my balance. The only side effect is that it does wonders for my digestion. I can tolerate that. You can get it at a health food store or any drug store, in the vitamin aisle.
