How many of you have had granulation tissue problems?

Hi Ladies
I am 6 weeks postop today - yay! I have had a great recovery, pretty uneventful, no major problems. I still have a yellowish-beige discharge, though it is relatively light. Yesterday I had a little pinkish discharge for the first time in a while and I think I saw a tiny black stitch when I went to the bathroom. I did NOT keep my cervix, so that would have nothing to do with it. My question is (to cut to the chase! ) is: How many of you ladies who are 6 weeks plus postop have had problems with granulation tissue? I am concerned that at six weeks I am still having the discharge and wondering when it will end...I am wondering if most ladies get away without having the granulation tissue or what....thanks for the info

Will granulation tissue ever go away?

I too am 6 weeks post op today -- just got back from my Dr's appt. And I too have some granulation tissue -- to go with my light brown discharge. (I was expecting this since my discharge has not changed since week 3)

He said that 2/3 of the incision is healed nicely, and 1/3 is still moist with "granulation tissue." (About the width of his little finger, he said.) He said it is not unusual at this point -- about 25-30% of women he sees have some granulation tissue in the healing process. He said it usually found at this six-week point.

He treated it with Silver Nitrate -- like he did 4 weeks ago at my 2-week post op appointment -- and told me to stay off work for another two more weeks (he said I could work part time from home though). Still no sexual relations either.

He said I could resume all other activities -- sit-ups and other abdominal exercises. And that lifting shouldn't be a problem.

But he said to rest when I feel tired, and sleep whenever I feel I need to. (Which is a LOT of the time! I sleep 10 plus hours at night, and take a nap during the day.)

He said we'll take a look in 2 weeks -- and do another treatment with silver nitrate if necessary.

That's my story -- I'm anxious to hear from the ladies who've already been through this!

Take care ... and check with your Doctor!

Will granulation tissue ever go away?

I too had granulation at my six week check up. My Dr. did a silver nitrate treatment. I went back this past Monday for a lower dosage patch and when he did an exam he noticed I STILL had some granulation and did ANOTHER silver nitrate. Hope this is the end of all that!

granulation - me too!

Well, just as I suspected! I had my six week postop visit today and - I have granulation tissue too, which is the cause of this discharge I have been having. I also had a remaining stitch that he removed. He used the silver nitrate on me, which did not hurt, and okayed me for everything, including sex (yeah, right! with silver coming out of me?! )....he said sometimes it can be stubborn to clear up...I still have a little there, he said, and I have to go back to him next week for more treatment....oh, I just can't wait to throw these darned panty liners out the window for good! I'd like to start enjoying my period-free life of freedom...:hair: ...then, I'll really celebrate

Will granulation tissue ever go away?

Hi ladies
I had my 6 week postop visit today and have granulation tissue, which was treated with silver nitrate - have to go back in 1-1/2 weeks for a checkup and probably more treatment. I was sort of expecting this because I have had continued discharge, but it is annoying because I really want to get back to life already! I have read several posts where women have had granulation tissue treated 5 or 6 times, some many months postop! This is pretty discouraging. Can anybody offer any encouragement on the subject -- i.e., can it be treated successfully and gotten rid of ONCE AND FOR ALL so we can go on to live a normal, period-free, discharge-free existance? I'm starting to feel

Thanks!

Will granulation tissue ever go away?

I had 3 treatments for granulation tissue. It will heal, and the amount of tissue and the number of treatments are dependent on many factors. I had to have alot of adhesions and my bladder disected from the back of my vagina which made for more damaged tissue on my vaginal cuff...hence, my treatments. I wouldn't worry too much about it. We all heal at different rates, and having to have several treatments or more post surgery is not uncommon.

reply to granulation

hi meghan,
i too went thru a vaginal hyst and kept ovaries on 2-27-02 and just had to have my ovaries removed via abdomine(wish i had them out then, but you never know) due to unknown 7 cm mass but was just endometrioma and endo attatched to my vag cuff, lower bowel and pelvic wall, that was enough.
back to granulation, i to had a long bought with it. i was on a pad for almost 8 months after my 1st surgery and i thought, i'm not supposed to wear these anymore, but due the healing process in all of us which is different my lasted awhile.
but you are different so keep the faith and all will go well.
pamper yourself, you only heal once after this major surgery!
GOD BLESS.

Hi,

I have had 2 treatments for it and the dr says if it is not gone when I go back to be checked he will cauterize it. He said he would not let me go to 5 times.

This is just what my dr says, they all do a little different, just ask your dr what he would like to do if it is a stubborn case.

Good luck to you that yours will heal soon.

Will granulation tissue ever go away?

Hi ladies!
I am 8 wks. post-op and I too have some granulation. My dr. had told me at my 6 wk. appt. that I had 3 small red places but it didn't seem to concern him. I wasn't having any spotting or discharge. Yesterday was my 1st day back at work and the spotting began. I thought I had hurt something but I hadn't. I called the dr. when I got home. He still wasn't too concerned. He said it was from the granulation areas becoming irritated because of my increased activity level. He wants me to give it a month to heal on its own. If I still have it at the end of the month's time or if it gets to be heavy then I am to go back and he will freeze it off.(Is that what the silver nitrate does....anyone know?)
I guess dr.'s are different in how they do their treatments. I can live with this. The spotting is minimal and it goes away when I rest.
