Help understanding HRT

Good morning
I recently had a PO because of family history of breast and ovarian cancer. I still have my breasts and hope to keep them for a while. I had my PO in May and overall have been doing well - until recently. I have been suffering from severe insomnia. That is the primary symptom. I also have had increased body odor and vaginal dryness as well as no sex libido. I was against HRT but am now reconsidering - at least in the short term (so I can get some sleep). I feel overwhelmed an uneducated about the options that are available. I would like some suggestions as to how to educate myself about the combinations that I can take. I know Dr. can be helpful but even they vary so much on their opinons. Any good web sites, resources, other threads would be very much appreciated.
thank you

Help understanding HRT

the best resource that I personally have found has been a book by Dr. Elizabeth Vliet, Screaming to be Heard, hormonal connections doctor ignore. And believe me, I went through alot of books, doctors, anything I could get my hands on. This is the first one that ever made any real SENSE to me. It is a big red book, I got mine at BooksaMillion, but it is broken down to where you can go straight to whatever topic you need.

This may sound crazy, because she explains it better in her book. But, say our bodies are our cars, when we have surgery (hysterectomy or whatever) we take away the key (hormones) that was given to us with our car (body). So therefore we have to go get another key(hormone) made to fit our car (body). We have to get one that is identical to the one we lost, because when we have surgery like that we lose our hormones that were given to us when we were born. In her opinion we need bio-identical ones. Ones made just like we were born with. She doesn't believe we were made with horse or plant forms.

She has a website called Herplace.com. I believe you would benefit from checking it out and reading her book. Best of luck to you.

You will find some wonderful information in the articles at www.hormonejungle.com There is a great article about assessing your risk for breast cancer and using hrt. On the home page of the you will also find some recommended books. Perhaps you could check a few of those out.
