abdominal incision

Hi Debbie,

It depends on the type of surgery you're having. Usually if the doc is going to be exploring for cancer or other diseased tissue you'll need a vertical incision. Since my doc was looking for additional cancerous tissue he did a vertical incision, it runs from my belly button down to my pelvic bone. If they don't suspect any problems you will most likely have a horizontal incision which usually runs around the bikini line (like a c-section cut).

Hope this helps.

So I am guessing if it is a vertical incision it will go down past the flap of my fluffy tummy? Won't that be hard to heal there? If anyone that has the abdominal incision at about 75 lbs overweight I would be interested in hearing about the location of your incision and how it healed for you! Loree

I weigh to much and ould have loved a tummy tuck at the same time but yep my bikini line incision was hidden to the human eye and I had concerns on it healing but all went well.
I used the hair dryer after showering on it to make sure it was dry and its healed nicely.

Abdominal incision

I had an exploratory incision 5 yr. ago. It was from the navel to the pubic bone. I found that when you wear a surgical support, it lifts the overhang and doesn't pull on your incision. I hope this helps.

P.S. Check this store, they have such an item.

Thanks! I am just worried because sometimes a develop a heat rash in the crease and I would worry if the incision is there I would not heal right. I don't have my preop appt until the day before surgery so I guess I wait and see! Thanks for all the support! Loree

Very Fluffy.

Healed at 11 days.

Use a lightdays pad horizontally if you need to keep area dry. Cotton undies are a must.

Good luck.

I'm overweight and so far everything looks good. I'll find out for sure when I go get the staples out tomorrow. My doc took off my dressings in the hospital, said it was better to let the air at it. I'm still not wearing underwear most days, I'm just more comfortable without them right now.
