uterine prolapse, cystocele, rectocele... and adenomyosis?!

Im STILL waiting on my refferal to a gynacologist, after my family doc told me that Im dealing with these things. I originally went in with long heavy periods, and a lot of spotting between periods. Along with some other symptoms that now I knwo are because one of the prolapses. Still not sure on the bleeding. There was a time not long ago I was being sent in for ultrasound to watch my uterus, looking for adenomyosis... can this be ruled out by ultrasound alone? during the last couple ultrasound they say that my uterus isnt looking as "big" and "puffy" as it was, what I understand to mean that adenomyosis doenst look as promising, but they say that there is evidence maybe fibroids starting..?! Im not sure on this...

Im 28, have 3 children, and DH had a vasectomy 2.5 yrs ago. our family is complete.

I guess I just feel overwhelmed wihout any real answers and not having had talk to a doctor about this for the last 2 months. I should be getting the call any day.

From those of you that have had to go though all these things, will the gyn look at my whole past history? will she look into the spoitting and uterine history (all the ultrasounds etc) as well as the prolapses? what kind of tests will she do?

the waiting and uncertainty is driving me crazy... Thanks for any help!

Hi Tasha,

You have a lot of things going on - it's no wonder you are feeling overwhelmed.

I never had any prolapse issues, so I can't share anything from personal experience. But at the top of this forum we have links to several other websites that have great information on things like prolapse. Take a look and be sure to scroll down to see the topics related to Prolapse.

Adenomyosis is another story. Adeno is very hard to diagnose and many gals don't even know they have it until the pathology report comes back after their hyst (this was my case, by the way). While an ultrasound may show indications of adeno, an MRI is a more definitive test. But even an MRI may not be conclusive. And some gyns don't order the test because it is fairly expensive. Our Resources Forum has some great links to information about adeno - click here for those links.

As for what the gyn will want to know and what tests he/she will run - hard to say for sure. I would be prepared to tell the gyn about all your reproductive problems and share results of any tests that have been done, such as the ultrasound. The gyn may do another ultrasound, may do blood work, may order an MRI. This really varies a lot, however - there are no hard and fast rules about the testing that is done, based on what I've read here from many different ladies.

I hope this helps you some, although I know the waiting for answers is not easy. Please keep reading, keep asking questions and keep us posted on what you find out. We'll do our best to provide support, whatever treatment option(s) you choose. Sending hugs your way.
