post-op tomorrow, worried about anesthesia

I can hardly believe that my post op appt. is tomorrow. I am quite concerned about the anesthesia. I am not worried to much about the actual surgery, I have had two c-sections.

I tend to get sick from the anesthesia. I had two foot surgeries and my D&C in April and got violently ill from the anesthesia. But when I had my two babies I never puked once. Is there something about the anesthesia when you have a baby that is different, I am sure there are drugs they won't give you that they don't want to pass to the baby, so I am definitely going to stress to them I do not under any circumstances what to vomit coming out of this and do everything in their power to help me not do that.

Any thoughts on this subject.

post-op tomorrow, worried about anesthesia

Hey Paula, My husband is an anesthesiologist and I just ask him about this same thing yesterday. I am having a TAH/BSO on Nov. 5th and I had the same concerns about being sick after I wake up. I also tend to get sick with anesthesia. I'm pretty sure we are not gonna feeling like throwing up after what we are gonna be going through. Anyway my husband told me to be sure to let the anesthesiologist know that I tend to get sick after surgery so he can put anti-nausea meds in my IV while I am asleep. He said he has lots of patients who tell him this same thing before their surgery and they always seem to do better if they let him know and he gives them the meds. So maybe you can talk to your anesthesiologist and ask him about it. I hope everything goes well with your surgery.

Great information! That was something I worried about as well. I think a lot of people do and a lot of people actually have trouble to some extent with the meds. Bevansley is right!!! Tell the A-man that you get sick, and they will give you something to help with it. My roommate was terribly sick after her's (we came out about 1 hr apart) and they gave her something even afterwards that helped, bless her heart though she wound up being allergic to the morphine which made it start all over again. I have been pretty fortuate in that department, but it never hurts to bring it up. They want you as comfortable as you would like to be.

Good luck!

Hello~

I agree...definitely talk to the anesthesiologist. I had a horrible experience after my hysterectomy. I woke up completely parched, shaking & nauseous. I was completely miserable. I have had another surgery since (scar tissue removal)...I mentioned to the anesthesiologist all the horrible side-effects I had the first time around and he told me not to worry he had drugs for all of those things. I woke up feeling great...it was truly amazing! I wasn't sick at all.

Make sure you mention it...the do have meds that will help.
