Nervous Newbie!

Hi, gang.....what a great place!....psyched to have found it totally by accident.

ok....I am having my hysterectomy on 10/29 and just got my paperwork in the mail today. I am scheduled for a lap assisted hys., but he can't promise that he will be able to do it because of a previous surgery.....may turn into an abdominal hyst. He is going to try to leave an ovary (or a piece of one?), but also can't say for sure until he sees. Sooooo....a few things I won't even know until I wake up. It's not that I don't enjoy the occasional surprise, lol.....buuuuuut!

At the moment....I'm sure there will be more coming at some point.....I have one question that you may or may not be able to answer. I got the instructions as far as a bowel cleanse.....ugh....NOT my favorite thang! I also got 2 different RX's for 2 different anti-biotics, which may or may not be a result of my severe diabetes. HOWEVER.....the main thing that has me concerned is the "Magnesium Citrate" that I am to take, "one 40 oz(???) glass every 30 minutes until clear...beginning after dinner the night before". If this is the stuff I am thinking of....there is absolutely NO WAY I can get it down. I hurl it as fast as I drink it. Heck, lol.....you should see me try to drink Barium if you think that's bad! I have a HORRIBLE time drinking anything like that, ladies.......has anyone else ever run into this problem? Do you happen to know if there's ANYTHING that I could substitute for this stuff?.......like a pill.....or even an enema??

I know.....out of all the things to freak out about, lol!! But when I saw that....I KNEW it was going to be a problem. Thanks in advance for any feedback you can throw my way! And thanks as well for allowing me to intrude into your group....I am thrilled to be here! smooooooch.....Chava

Nervous Newbie!

Hi Chavala,

Welcome to Hyster Sisters!!

While I'm sorry that you are facing surgery, I am glad that you found HS and posted to introduce yourself.

flowersam has already given you some good advice about calling your doctor and discussing what alternatives he feels are possible. Please remember that each of us has a slightly different surgery, and it's very important to follow your own doctor's instructions or to talk with him about possible alternatives.

Please be sure to read the Pre-Op Hints (click here) and the Post-Op Hints (click here). They are full of great advice that will help you to prepare for your surgery and recovery.

Also, I hope you'll go back into your control panel and add your surgery date to your profile so you'll be on the calendar and will receive a special greeting from Hyster Sisters.

I hope you'll continue to read and to post any questions that you may have - we'll do our best to help.

Nervous Newbie!

thanks, Ladies!!

Of course, I will call my Dr.....I just wondered if anyone else had experienced anything similar that perhaps they might know of something comparable to mention to the doc. I think I might have put it in my profile.....but I work in the health area and tell people the same thing about 50 times a day....."ask your dr!!", LOL! Also....could have sworn I put my big day in there as well? I'll have to peek back and check to be certain.

I notice that you're one of our hostesses, Karen......what a WONDERFUL place you have here! I used to be President of a non-profit organization for Hepatitis C, but resigned several months ago.....partly because of health issues. I am doing basically the same thing now, more on my own, but still moderate a couple messageboards. I don't know what's appropriate to post here....but if anyone ever needs help with hcv (hep C) or substance abuse (specialize in opiates and methadone treatment).....please feel free to give me a holler as I'd be more than happy to help!

Sorry.....I came here to get some support for ME, lol.....and always end up doing the opposite! I'll let y'all know what the doc says about drinking this stuff......ugh....hard to even think aboutit!!

btw....tonight starts Rosh Hashanna...the Jewish New year....may you all have a very happy and HEALTHY New Year! smoooooch.....Chava

Nervous Newbie!

Welcome Chavala...

one 40 oz glass every thirty min...honey that'd turn you inside out. I'm betting its a typo. Pobably 4 oz glass....Mag Citrate isn't the worst of bowel cleaners. Its carbonated and even comes with mild lemon flavor. I would take Mag citrate over some of the other options. Like GoLytely- now there's an oxymoron

You have lots of time to read all the posts and learn everything you can. Thats great.

We are really happy to have you here.

Since you're in the field you already know that the mpre knowledge you have the more proactive you can be.

SoooooooHappy New Year!!!!

Dilu.....YOU ARE IN MY WILL, LOL!!!!!....I think I love you! Of course, my wordly possessions don't amount to an ant hill, but it's the thought that counts??

Ok....seriously now....NEXT time I'm going to trust my instincts! What confused the heck out of me, was the "40 oz." and then the "Magnesium Citrate". Mattafact....I decided that before I even called the doc I was going to call my buddy the pharmacist. The first thing I thought of when I saw the name of the laxative was that it was the stuff that tastes like a rrrrreal sweet 7-up....or lemon/lime soda, yes?? But then I saw the 40 oz and thought, "SKREEEEEEECH!!!!...it must be another name for that "GoLightly" stuff......which is the liquid that I ABSOLUTELY cannot handle ....mostly because of the quantity. OMG.....I am sooooo relieved now, Dilu!! I think I might be able to handle the 4 oz's of that if it's the lemon/lime stuff. What I'll do is email the office manager.....tell her about her awful typo (not to worry....I'll be gentle....even tho I'd like to strangle her, lol)....and then ask, for the heck of it....if there's maybe a pill I could take instead. Can't hurt, lol!!

Thanks soooooooo much again, Dilu.....this will make the rest of my holiday weekend much more relaxed until I can get with the doc's office on Monday!!! smoooooooch.....Chava

Chavala YUKKY Drink

Hi Chavala
I didn't have to do anything, before my surgery ... I guess all Dr'S are different ... I would call Your Dr. and tell them you just can't drink it ... There are other thing's you can do .. They have tint fleet enamas that clean you out. I had to take one after surgery because I was clogged up ... It started working within 5 minutes .. I went again that night and the next morning it finished up cleaning my bowels out .... You might ask him if you can use it instead .... I do know you can get that drink in an a form as ice cream ....
Good Luck!!
