just got the word

Just got the word yesterday, second opinion.. again recommending TVH!! Said to go ahead and schedule.. I am tired of all the bleeding and pain.. large fibroids have tried so many other options and none worked for longer than 3 months...
Age 41 with 3 kids, have already had a T/L

Dr states 4 weeks out of work recovery... this seems a little excessive to me, I was up and around normal activity after 3 days giving birth.. Please share your experiences and let me know what else to expect... I am soooo looking forward to no more PMS.... doctor is leaving my ovaries, can't quite recall if he mentioned the cervix... will have to call him on that...

I have no date for the surgery yet, he will call by the weekend, I do know that it will be before the year ends!!

just got the word

2-4 weeks is the standard range for being out of work after a TVH- it would depend on what you do for a living and how your recovery is going. Many women do go back after 2 weeks. I'm sure your doctor is telling you four weeks because some women need the time and it's difficult to predict.

Giving birth is a normal biological process- having major surgery is more of a shock to your system, so you really can't compare the two. However, many people do quite well after surgery- I had a TAH (needs more recovery time than a VH) and did very well. I walked a mile one week after surgery and was walking 3 miles a day after 3 weeks.

If he used the term 'TVH' that includes the cervix. The cervix is the lower part of the uterus, not a separate organ.

Best wishes!
