6 week check today-report showed Cancer
Hi Everyone,
Well today I had my 6 week check up with my Gyn.
He did a Silver Nitrate treatment and put me on Estrace as per my request.
The biggest surprise for both of us was that I had Cervical Cancer.
I am still trying to get this sunk into my head as I have never had an abnormal pap in my life.
I am 35 years old and had my TAH/BSO due to Endo for 15 years or more. Little did I know that the majority of the pain that was not repsponding to the treatments was the severe dysplasia Carcinoma that was on my cervix.
Last night I was tossing and turning about getting this surgery done and will I feel like the same person again once I get hormones. I was also worrying about things like will this swelly belly ever go away.
Well you know what. Today I thank God that I chose to have my surgery and that those little things mean nothing in the bigger picture of life.
I am stunned, relieved, scared all at the same time.
He did say he removed it all and I will have a pap in 6 months time.
Sorry to babble, but I thought I should tell everyone what has happened.
Thanks for listening.
Michelle

What a differance a day makes. I suspect your perspective will be differant for the rest of your life.
Congratulations, it will make a lot of things easier for you now, because you have a higher set of priorities. It can also simplyfy your life.
I am so glad you had the surgery, that you are well and on your way to a better life. No one will ever need to remind you to slow down and enjoy the little things- the roses do smell great.
Love your life, thank God you have it!

Hello....
Wow, I can only imagine the changes of emotions you've been through.
If you should need (or want) to talk about the cancer, remember there is a Cancer Concerns Message board here:
http://www.hystersisters.com/vb2/for....php?forumid=6
Just in case you have any concerns about your own situation and would like to chat with other ladies who've had to face this same thing.
I hope all goes well with your healing,

a blessing in disguise?
Wow Michelle,
You have a wonderful perspective on the "bigger picture" now... how thankful that you had the surgery and had the cervix removed before it could cause serious problems, even life-threatening ones.
How was the cancer discovered then? Do they automatically "biopsy" anything that is removed from the body - send it to pathology, etc? Or did it visibly "look" weird to your doctor upon removal? Did you have a 2-week follow up appt - if so was anything at all said then? Why did you need the Silver Nitrate treatment? (is that for bleeding at the vaginal cuff?)
Here's wishing you a speedy recovery and return to good health.

Hi Happydog,
The silver nitrate is used for granulation tissue that forms during the healing process.
My GYN found the sever dysplasia on the Cervix and then he sent away for the pathology test. Sure glad my surgeon is one of the best in the city.
Everything sure happens for a reason. He also said that this explained why my pain wasn't responding to the method of treatment(BC Pills).
I am now going to research this further myself, I don't know anything about Cervical Cancer at all. Read Read, information is power.
Take Care!

6 week check today-report showed Cancer
Hi Michelle!
WOW, how scary! I have always had a feeling that someday I'll have cancer in my belly region somewhere. I've already survived thyroid cancer for 17 years, but something tells me that I'll get it again. Don't mean to sound morbid, it's just always been a feeling. It's part of why I chose to have my uterus and cervix removed almost 4 weeks ago.
Anyway, I sure wish you all the best in your recovery. By all means, keep us posted!

It certainly was a blessing that you had the surgery. I can't understand how my paps keep coming "normal" either, but it can happen, and thats troubling.
Best wishes on your recovery.
