1 week post op, RED RED bleeding
OK, went to the bathroom this morning and when I wiped there was a significant amount of RED blood on the tissue. Looking into toilet it almost looked like a clot had past. I called the docs office and she basically said lets keep an eye on it, could have been stiches (although she said it's a little early for that) or a "hematoma" (I think thats what she called it.) But, to call them back around lunch time and let them know how things are. Stay off feet she said.
Over the next few hours there was a little bleeding into the pad but not much, but, every time I seem to urinate there is what looks to be a significate amount of blood. And when I wipe. I called them back to let them know, she (the nurse) seems to think maybe a possible UT infection. But, it does not hurt or burn when I urinate. I do seem to need to concentrate on relaxing before I get started and I feel some tension when its ending but I think its just the muscles trying to get back into the swing of things.
I dont know, it this at all normal?? Has anybody else ever experienced anything like this??
Just curious,

I didn't experiance anything like that, but I am so glad that you called your Dr. Keep on top of it and if you feel that you want or need to be seen, make sure you stick with it and not allow them to give you a "waite and see" attitude. My Dr. told me any new red bleeing or pain to call right away and if I felt I needed to, to go to the ER. Let us know how you turn out. Will be thinking of you.

Hi! I would be very concerned about that, too. Bright red blood is a 'red flag' indicating a possible infection somewhere in the surgical site,or elsewhere in the body. After my last surgery,I started bleeding, bright red,and my doctor said to come in to her office, the day after Christmas. After an internal check, she said my stitches were coming out, although it was not the norm for them to cause bleeding so far into the recovery period. Did you have a vaginal or abdominal hyst? Just curious.

1 week post op, RED RED bleeding
I had a TAH/BSO.....................Must say I'm still a little concerned. The bleeding seemed to stop after I showered later in the afternoon. But a few hours later, when I used the bathroom it started back up again and hasn't stopped. It's not alot of blood, I have not had to change pads for excessive bleeding or anything like that. But yet, I'm still concerned because up til this point I have just been having some light pinkage bleeding.
The nurses said to call them this morning and let them know how things are doing. I guess if they want me to come in I will be calling hubby home from work. Hate doing that! I dont want him to get into any trouble with bosses. I'm afraid to go in because I dont want ANYBODY to be pushing on my oh so tender belly. Plus, I'm afraid of being re-admitted or something like that.
Guess I'll find out in a few hours.

1 week post op, RED RED bleeding
I'm 20 days post op and have been having bright red bleeding since last Friday. I didn't call the doctor since I see him today. I really don't want to see any more doctors or hospitals.
I hope this isn't any kind of an infection or anything like that. I haven't had a lot of pain, and my belly is not too swelled up.
Good luck to us both.

Hi BeatlesCrzy
I had the bright red bleeding too .. it really scared me, so I can sympathise completely. Please be sure to contact the DRs office and make sure you keep on at them .. also your health is more important, than any job in the whole wide world ...
They won't push on your belly, but the DR will want to do an internal .. to ensure that everything 'up' there is OK .. mine turned out to be the dissolving stitches, becoming looser and all the collected pool of blood from bruises, started to be able to drain out ... but it is worth while to get it checked out ..... you don't want anything to get in the way of your recovery ...
Good Luck for your 'phone call'
Love Toni xxx

1 week post op, RED RED bleeding
I had the exact thing you are having. 6 days post op i started bright red bleeding--within 5 days it got to where i was using 7 or 8 pads a day. Having just gotten out of the hospital the 2nd time for an ileus, i didn't want to go back to the ER.
Dr office insisted i come in on monday. Turns out i had gigantic hematoma--10cm. it was not painful to have the exam--i was just a little tender inside. they did a vaginal ultrasound to diagnose.
treatment was: antiobiotics, ultrasound e/o week to monitor.
Unfortunately, the dr. thinks the hematoma is what has caused my now fistula.
Get your dr to keep an eye on it if the bleeding does not let up.

 Thanks to everyone for replying!
Saw the doc. He seems to think that like what Toni1971 said. All the collected pool of blood from the bruising is beginning to spill out. My 2 week appt is next Wed. and I was sternly told to keep that appt. Also, I'm supposed to be keeping my pelvic area raised higher to try to stop or slow the bleeding. Ya, that will be comfortable! Ha, ha!!
Thx again everyone!

BeatlesCrzy-
I had a hematoma (maybe two?). I guess mine also started getting infected because I started running a fever and had pain which reminded me of an ovarian cyst (very pressurized) - I don't have any ovaries left. I started bleeding a lot and I finally went to the ER. Sonogram showed a hematoma that was 7cm by 7cm. The bleeding was good - because it relieved the pain and pressure and the fever.
I just went for a followup sonogram yesterday and she said she saw two now one 2.5cm and one that's 4cm. I'm surprised your doctor didn't have you go for a sonogram - just to be sure. Maybe he'll order one next week, depending on how you're doing. My doctor felt a "fullness" on my vaginal cuff - which maybe your doctor did not feel. Maybe that is how they distinguish between a hematoma and stitches dissolving.
Well, I wish you well - and keep an eye on your temperature. (My doctor said to call if I got a temp above 100.4)
Rest well!
Danette
