Confused about Hormones

I had my TAH/BSO October 2002, I was put on Cenestin. I'm not really sure if I really need it and would like to understand more about it. My sex drive is below par, my eyes are really dry, I feel like I've gained weight (bloaty), and I really don't feel great! Of course, my surgeon is no help.

I've been reading about progesterone and was wondering if this would help or hurt...

If anyone else has experienced this or can offer information, I would greatly appreciate it.

Thanks-

Ditzy714

Confused about Hormones

Hi Ditzy, I had the same symtom's your explaining. It's no picnic feeling like that either, and I'm sorry your having to go through this. I was also having night sweats, and mood swings though. I went for my post op last week, and let my doctor know my symtom's. I was on estrogen pills, and she had started me out on the higher dose she told me right after surgery. She felt that it should be enough for my body, but did tell me few women she's treated end up needing more estrogen. She gave me patch samples of a higher dose estrogen to see how I felt after a week on them. She order a hormone level test also. After 5 days on the new patch I started having a burst of energy, the hot flashes/night sweats stopped, and my eyes aren't burning anymore (Don't know if that's hormone related, but now I suspect it was). I got my test results back yesterday also. I was at a level 15, and she said I needed to be above 35 and she wants to see that the level is higher than that. I retest in five weeks. My sex drive is also coming around!!
Have you had your hormone level tested since your surgery?
Sorry your doctor isn't good about change. I've found sometimes you have to be persistant, or seek another doctor who will listen. I've been there and done that, and I'm so glad I was persistant, or I would have continued with the pain I had before surgery.I know this doesn't answer your question about progesteron, but thought I would post my experience.
Take Care, Tracy

Confused about Hormones

I think you need to find a gynecologist who is willing to communicate with you ,answer your question and listen to your concern.

Just a suggestion

Hi Ditzy...Can I just make a small suggestion here?? I know it is hard to change doctors, but your comfort is the most important thing. Communication is critcal I think in our overall care. If your doctor is not one that likes change, then you may want to look around and get a referral for someone that will treat YOU and your symptoms:>)
((hugs))) and best of luck
Hope
