Home & Doing Great

Hi,
First I want to thank all of you for the concern and compassion. I greatly appreciate all of the knowledge that comes from "just living" the procedure. I am happy to let all of you know I came through the surgery on the 21st with flying colors. I surprised the nurses and doctors by leaving the hospital 24 hours after my surgery and coming home to Maine, 3 hours from my surgical site in Boston, Mass.
I had a supracervical hysterectomy. They were able to leave my left ovary and tube. My uterus was adhered to my bladder and I had other adhesions - still awaiting the rest of the reports. But that finally explains my need to pee all the time.
I was up within 5 hours and eating and walking. I go right on solid foods and I think that helps me.
Thanks again. I will keep you updated.

Hi Debra,

Welcome to Post-op!

Get lots of rest, drink plenty of water, and take some short walks around the house. Pamper yourself!

Take care!

Hi Debra!

Congrats!!! I am 12 days post-op LSH/BSO and am feeling as well as you are!! I was shopping on post-op day 3 and back at work post-op day 10.

This procedure was a miracle!! Like you I was up 6 hours post op and walking, walked every hour all night since I could not sleep, and when my doc came in to discharge me the next morning he was suprised by how well I looked., apparently the surgery was more detailed since the endo turned out to be everywhere and my bowel was adhered to my abdominal wall.

I hope that you continue to do well with you recovery!

Annie

Hi,
Thanks for all the support. I am glad to hear you are doing well too Annie. I did do groceries today, but since I had an abdominal hysterectomy I am probably moving a little slower, but not much! I'll catch up to you soon LOL.
I have a question for you Annie - do you eat right after surgery. I am trying to figure out what I do differently to get up so quickly after surgery. Seems everytime I have surgery, the nurses are always surprised, so I am wondering what makes us different. Your thoughts??

Debra;

This has been the easiest surgery Ihave ever had, and first I attribute the recovery to really being mentally prepared for the procedure, as well as being informed about the procedure and what to expect. I also had a wonderful doctor, who is extremely talented.

I think that the shot of long acting morphine in my spine pre-op made all of the difference! I had not post-op pain, so I was in a room by 3pm, had broth, and jello at about 7pm, and as soon as the cath was removed I was up and walking by 10 pm. Not having pain was wonderful, and pain control/management post-op is imperrative.

I honestly feel that I would not have done as well without that shot and of course the massive dose of Zofran for the vomiting, so I did not have any bad symptons post-op.

Now, the next point is a wee bit controversial, but the walking..... if you lie around you swell, feel pain, feel icky, and I believe what my Dr. says, the faster you get up, and the more you walk, the better you will feel. There are physicians who do not feel this is so, but mine does, and I know that on the days that I sat around more, I felt worse, so I would say do not over do it, but be sure to get up and about as soon as possible.

If you had seen me after my two laps for endo, and especially after my gallbladder lap, you would not have believed the difference and with all of those procedures, I did not have pain control post-op, and followed the physicians instructions and was not up and about, but rather on my back on the sofa watching the tv.

The LSH is an outstanding procedure, and I myself am still amazed by the recovery! When I graduate in the spring, I am going to finally have a life again, I cannot wait, maybe I will finally find love again, participate in activities again, and just enjoy the life I have been given!

Feel free to email me, or send pm's and I hope that you are also doing well!! I hope taht you had a blessed Thanksgiving, and I also wanted to tell you that was born in a town outside of Boston, and still have family up there!!! It is nice to talk to someone from that area!!

Annie
