Abdom. Hyst & Tummy Tuck

Just curious here as to how many of you considered, or decided to go through with, having any cosmetic surgery done in conjunction with your hysterectomy. I opted for a tummy tuck and liposuction after talking to my gyn. She told me that this would be the best time and also the cheapest way to do it. I am SOOOOOOOOOO glad I did it (although I may have given you another answer for the first few days). I really thought it would lengthen my recovery time but so far, after reading from others here, think I am right on track. Had my surgery on the 14th of Nov. and actually was out doing some Christmas shopping tonight.

Hi there!

I have read about many gals having a tummy tuck along with their hysts. You can do a search with "tummy tuck" as the key word and find lots of threads regarding it.

Regarding the shopping, I hope you can be extra careful, dear; and try to limit the amount of time you're out. Soooooo many have felt "pretty good" and gone out shopping (especially this time of year) and come back here very upset because they ended up feeling horrible and had to go back to bed and take it especially easy for a few days after such an outing. It's hard to imagine that just a little shopping can do that, but it really can. I would also be very careful you don't get inadvertently bumped in the tummy by someone.

Take care,

Go figure...

I didn't need a tummy tuck before (I hope that doesn't sound bad, it's not meant to) but now with this "shelf" thing I am seriously considering cosmetic surgery!!!! Does this shelf of skin over the incision go away?

BTW - I did go shopping yesterday with my sister and had a grand time. Got three pairs of jeans, a nice pair of brown pants and black pants that I can wear to work and a couple shirts. Was out and about for about five hours and not a single problem. Slept great last night and not sore today at all. I guess everyone has a different recovery threshold and needs to listen to their own bodies. Sure worked for me.

Abdom. Hyst & Tummy Tuck

I had the combo TAH and tummy tuck on October 7th. Feeling quite good, pretty much back to normal now. I haven't lost any weight, which I find surprising given how much was removed (my uterus alone had a two-pound fibroid in it). But my shape is definitely different. I don't have to suck in my stomach anymore, or even think about it, and that was the result I wanted most.

I think the only way the TT added to my healing time was in the sewing the plastic surgeon did on the muscles above my navel. They were separated pretty far from my pregnancies and I had an umbilical hernia. I had quite a lot of pain in my lower ribcage area after the surgery, and even eight weeks later, it still gets sore pretty quickly there.

I had the shelf thing before my surgery, LOL!

I just don't worry about things like this. This world is wayyyy too caught up in insisting on physical perfection ... especially for women, who are supposed to maintain the figure of a 10 year old at 40 and beyond and if they don't, something is "wrong" with them and they have a weak character.

You don't see old, bald, fat men being looked at like this or looking at themselves this way.

I look at it this way: I am not a model. Nor have I ever been, nor will I ever be. But I am still a good person who has done plenty of good things in my life and will do plenty more. Those things aren't all negated because my stomach puffs out or I have 45 inch hips. If people can't handle that, they need to get out of my way and go get a life somewhere else ...

Let me start off by saying that by no means am I caught up in trying to be perfect in any way or even better than someone else for that matter. I am a far cry from it. Nor was I trying to regain my youth by opting for the figure of my ten year old self. Lord knows I wouldnt wish that body on anyone. My self image has been poorer than poor ever since I can remember and cannot remember a day in my entire life when I looked in the mirror and saw anything but UGLY staring back at me. I was simply given an opportunity to do something that I otherwise would not have been able to do and in return am a much happier person within myself. I see nothing wrong with that. People make life choices based on many things and I dont feel it is my right or privilege to judge anyone until I have walked in their shoes. Just my two cents worth.

I am SO jelous that you are getting a tuck. My dr. never even mentioned that it was a posibility to me when I was considering this surgery. I have had a c-section as well as my hyster. and since my c-section, my tummy has always been a huge trouble spot and source of constant irritation to me. Before my pregnancy, I was one of those women you see with the flat, ripped tummies. My tummy still looks like a washboard, however, the "boards" are now running up and down (from stretch marks) and not across like they used to. LOL! After my hysterectomy, my tummy looks even more attractive......that is if you like train tracks......They were unable to use my same incision site for the hysterectomy because it was too low, so now I have TWO 5 inch incision scars running paralell to one another.....looking much like train tracks. I have a double shelf ladies, also known as the front butt, thank you very much! Eat your hearts out! It doesn't matter how much weight I loose or exercise I do, my stomach will never look good again. If I had been given the opportunity to have a tummy tuck and liposuction, I would have jumped on it in a second. You go girl! I am 41 and no, I don't want to look like I did when I was 10, but I wouldn't mind looking in the mirror without being shocked!

You gotta laugh otherwize you might cry! I say go for it!

Abdom. Hyst & Tummy Tuck

Hi
I wrote on a similar post that I had always had this skinny arms legs thing with a nice lil tummy. Was a good ego boost when my daughter first seen me in hospital announcing first up hey mum youve lost your tummy. I didnt have a tummy tuck but think I may have considered it if I was aware of such good surgery timing. I said Id send an SOS if the thing grew back ... cos Ive been quite delighted even with the envelope thing that has now subsided.

Feeling real good .. my ego took a real ***downer*** today when an Aboriginal man came by to beg for a cigarette outside my office and enquired if I was pregnant !!! UUUUGGGHHHHhh!!!
Poor thing he would have no idea how he effected me....!!

No SoS postings yet though !!

Regards
