IC, Ventral hernia repair and adhesions
Hi. Hope everyone is at least in good spirits, if not good health. I had 3 surgeries in one day on the 13th of November. I had said what great drs I had found, but was very dissappointed with the care I was given. I have been out of work since the summer, and was originally scheduled for surgery on the 8th of Sept! The 3 drs couldn't seem to get the scheduling together, or so I'm told. After 2 visits per office(x3) + additional specialist(nuerologist x2) and alot of co-pays (have no money to pay), and pre admission testing x2, they agreed on the 13th of Nov. So we arrive at the big house(that's my version of a hospital)earlier than we were told to and ended up waiting several hours before they took me to the or. Everyone elses family was allowed back with them(pre-op), but mine, they thought my children would be a problem(they were angels). After a few hours back there I demanded they bring them back. I wanted to let them know that drs said they decided to keep me after for a day or so,(thought it was out patient, or so I was led to believe). They finally take me to the or around 12:30pm and than I wake up in post op around 5pm, where I was until 11pm, UNATTENDED for the most part. They had no bed for me upstairs. They left me in the bed, with no call button or med button for hours. When I got the attention of a male nurse, he was hollaring at the female, who Gave me meds once that i remember, that she didn't even give me my morphine pump button! I was in so much pain!
Than they take me up and I was in a room by myself (with another bed in the room, but having probs finding bed huh). They next morn two men come in and wash me up and change the bed and my gown. 2 of my drs come in and tell me i am doing well and can go home today and they are removing cath and (stints to kidneys?), and if I eat and can go bathroom I can go home. I was told I have IC really bad and that they repaired ventral hernia (size of grapefruit) and did alot of work inside. They bring liquids for breakfast and I hold them down well. I asked my nurse the first time I saw her for a pitcher of water, but no water comes. I push the nurse bell after they remove cath and NO NURSE even answers me! I don't see her until much later. So I get out of bed myself to use the bthrm and even unplug my own meds and iv, SEVERAL TIMES CAUSE NO NURSE!!!!! The kitchen calls my room and asks what I want for lunch, i can eat solids, so I order a cheese steak and ice tea. It comes and I eat and drink the tea, but still no water pitcher. My physical therapist comes and takes me to therapy, requirment for release, and I do well. Come back and STILL NO WATER! It's after noon by now. So I go suck some water out of bthrm sink with my hands. I call my DH and tell him to get ready to come get me. But when DH arrives my general surgeon comes in and tells me I can't go!!!!! I complain to him about my lack of care and tell him I'm going home anyway! They than send in the head nurse and she tries to convince me to stay but I refuse! Why stay, to be tortured even more?!! They refused me instructions and meds cause i signed myself out.
They strung me along for months than treat me bad and now I have all these bills and have no money to see them. So I don't know when I will be able to have a follow up. We are now financially in the hole cause my DH missed alot of unpaid work(used paid days prior for appts and test) and we can barely afford our rent! I'm sure I missed a ton of other things, but am so angry and no longer trust drs or hospitals (and this was supposed to be a great one)!!!!!!!!
Help!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I am still wobbling around, having a hard time on steps, and in alot of pain. My pcp is continuing me on my regular meds, Thank God for him!!!!!Vicodin and Xanax!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
God bless you all,
Trish

IC, Ventral hernia repair and adhesions
Oh ((((Trish))))) I'm so sorry this last visit to the... well, can't be a castle, right?.... to the "big house" was such a stressful experience for you
I understand all too well the strain of financial hardship, but, right now, you have to concentrate on recovering... and you most likely need a follow up appointment. Has your surgeon refused to see you because you signed yourself out of the hospital? if that's the case, could your PCP see you and ensure that your recovery is coming along well?
Sending lots of s your way and hoping that you're now on the Road to Recovery. Please keep us posted.
