Hi Ladies...I have a question.....What exactly is Premarin cream supposed to do??? I am on 2 mg. of Estrace pills every night. My Dr. gave me a tube of the Premarin Cream to put "down there". But what is it for exactly??? I am very dry on the outside, like the lips area, does that help moisturize the skin??? Don't want to sound stupid...but I'm already on Estrace.....I don't want to be taking too much estrogen. I was also getting a lot of yeast infections, does this cream help that too?? Dr. also said if I know I'm going to have sex that night, put some on in the morning???? HELP!!
It's not uncommon for our 's to prescribe estrogen creme vaginally for symptoms of vaginal dryness/atrophy. Sometimes the oral estrogen that we take is not enough on it's own to keep the vaginal tissues healthy. Very little, if any, of the vaginal estrogen cremes are absorbed into the body---so it does not interfere with your "regular" HRT.
Also, here's an interesting article on vaginal dryness:
Can anyone tell me if the Premarin vaginal cream is in any way linked to the bad studies on the oral premarin? I'm on the Vivelle dot .1 and was recently given premarin vaginal cream, but I'm a little leary due to that study .....
Hi Tess The HRT connected with the adverse results in the study was Prempro, which is a mixture of oral Premarin and a synthetic progestin called Provera. The part of the study in which the women took Premarin only without the Provera is still ongoing because there have not been any adverse results. It appears that the negative results are more associated with the Provera than the Premarin.
Premarin cream and oral Premarin are basically two forms of the same HRT. However, when Premarin cream is used in small quantities vaginally, it doesn't pass appreciably into the bloodstream so it stays in the vaginal tissues and doesn't circulate to other tissues in the body.
