It's a GAS, GAS, GAS

Need to vent so bare with me. I am 3 1/2 weeks post-op and still having severe gas. I get so bad I double over, feel like I am having a contraction. It knocks my breath out of me. Then next thing I am in the bathroom w/diarreh(sp). When will it all end????? Next problem.. My son has a field trip this Thursday to see the Rocketts and we are going backstage to see everything. Do you think this is too much to do. I know the walking will be ok, but what about all the stairs and commotion with the kids?? Any help would be appreciated

I can second the gas thing. I didn't know it could hurt so much... Thank goodness it doesn't last too long

As for the rockettes.. I'd go. I wouldn't count on being much of a chaperone but I'd go for my own enjoyment. How old are the kids? Are you having difficulty with stairs? Do you have to ride on a bouncy bus? ( I think that would stop me faster than anything)

I had a TVH and only had the gas for the first week I think, but when it did hit where it would hurt, I'd go out and do that little extra walking in front of my house and it seems to help move things around and get it out. My Dr. also had me taking colace for the first three to four weeks post op. Not the one with the laxative, just the stool softener. Are you eating any gassy foods? Maybe ask your Dr. if you can take some Gas-X to help with the gas pains.
As for your field trip. Nobody can tell you what you'll feel up to. I went for my post op at 3 weeks post, to my Dr.'s office half hour away and DH and I stopped and had lunch on the way home and by the time I got home I was totally exhausted and laid down to a three hour nap. It took alot out of me just doing that. I don't want to discourage you or encourage you. Did your Dr. give you restrictions still? Think of how you feel now and when you do short walking etc and how you'd feel after a long field trip, with alot of sitting and as you said walking stairs. You are still pretty early in your recovery.

It's a GAS, GAS, GAS

I am 4 weeks out today from surgery and I can only handle walking for about 10 minutes and then I have to sit down for a bit. I tried Kmart and lasted a total of 15 minutes cause I got so sore. I'm not pushing myself cause this is the 2nd surgery and I sure don't want anymore adhesions that will cause further surgeries. As for the gas, I still have issues there too. Guess it takes awhile to get everything back in tune.
