HRT & Atkins

According to Atkins, estrogen will impede progress. I have always been able to lose weight on Atkins until my hysterectomy and subsequent HRT. What is everyone's take on the hormone Atkins issue?

I am fat and stuck and miserable.

Thanks,
Pamela

HRT & Atkins

((((Pamela)))) I do not have any insight as to the effect of HRT on those of you who are doing Atkins, but I did want to send some s your way: sounds like you need them right now

I also wanted to mention that, depending on when you had your surgery, it might take some time, and some tweaking, for your system to get used to both having the surgery as well as to finding the right HRT combination for you. So don't despair.

hrt and atkins

i thought i was the only human on earth to gain weight on atkins!!! it just did not work for me. then i went to weight watchers and got down to 15 points a day because i gained using the lowest number of points and i was starving!!
everything i did before doesnt work even now almost two years after my hyst. so my game plan is to eat low glycemic carbs and use the south beach diet...(i know yet another diet) but i cant stop trying! what has helped me immensely is Curves. so far in three months i have lost 20 and a quarter inches and only six pounds. but i'm down a size so i wont complain. i also do yoga for stress relief and the multiple benefits it has given me for the last three years. i rarely eat bread or pasta and i make sure i eat every three hours...just a small snack and that way i'm not starving. i would like to see the scale go down but as long as i continue working out three days a week at curves and loosing inches i 'm okay with my weight. i watch what i eat and am trying to loose this budha belly i have been gifted with since my hyst.
good luck!

HRT & Atkins

I think I'm one of those women who after hyster retaining ovaries produces an excess of testosterone in that the Atkins eating plan aids weight loss for me as the proteins build my body and I feel generally great when eating low carb meals. I've lost over 20 pounds so far and although I have stagnated lately I'm exercising more than I used to simply because of the exercise I'm doing which I feel in turn helps regulate my hormones. Get your hormones checked and see what it tells you.

HRT & Atkins

I had a comp. hyst. - no ovaries, no hormones left, nothing. Atkins says up front that if you are on Est. you won't lose weight. I didn't. So then I went off my patch. Guess what? DISASTER! And I still didn't lose weight. Atkins was always my best [only] shot at weight loss and now I don't know where to turn.

HRT & Atkins

Take a good look at the South Beach diet; it's very similar to Atkins, but with the emphasis on vegetable fats rather than animal fats. The Atkins diet was always too heavy in animal and saturated fats (and dairy) for my taste, but I've liked the South Beach diet. The cardiologist I work for looked into it on my urging; not only has he lost 35 pounds with it but he is now recommending it as one of the most heart-healthy choices around.

Thank you everyone who replied

As soon as the holidays are over I'm giving it the ole 'good try' again and will be looking into the South Beach diet when I do.

The hugs by all are deeply appreciated!
