Endometrial hyperplasia - now what??

I just got my pathology reports. No cancer, no atypical cells, but I do have hyperplasia. The nurse said the Dr. would give me a pill for this. What? I know what hyperplasia is and that it is often pre-cancerous, but what else do I need to know.
Sisters?

P.S.

The "P." at the end of my post was the start of a "P.S." when I accidentally hit a button and submitted it.
I just wanted to add that I was feeling very emotional. I have been on a hormonal roller coaster for weeks.
P.S.S. Progesterone hasn't helped before. Is that the "pill" they're talking about?

Endometrial hyperplasia - now what??

Hi Jeanemarie,

I just found a couple sites on the web with articles about this; just type "endometrial hyperplasia" into Google, and you should get the same results I did. I just scanned them, but 3 of them said if NO atypia is found, it's not a big deal yet. Also talks about the pills, etc. The articles/sites were either medical schools, written by doctors, etc.

Hope some of the articles help you come up with some detailed questions about what the doctor plans for you next.

Endometrial hyperplasia - now what??

I also have endometrial hyperplasia. It was found during a d&c w/hysterscopy. My doctor thought about giving me progesterone pills as this is the common method to fix it. But, she felt that the progesterone was the part of the birth control pills that makes me terribly nauseated. Since I also have an enlarged uterus and 14 day long periods and can't take the pill because of debilitating nausea and vomitting, I opted for the hysterectomy. So, to answer your question, yes, progesterone is what they typically give to resolve this issue. Upon research, I''ve read several places that if it doesn't respond to progesterone, that is cause for worry, but they don't say why. HTH.

venting...

Thanks Melanie and Peg:
I did the Yahoo search. I learned a little, but I think it's woman knowledge I need. Maybe I just need a good pity party.
I'm so tired of non-stop bleeding (even after the D&C), I'm tired of the moodiness, I'm tired of the cramps, I'm tired of the anemia...generally I'm tired that I have lost control of my life.
I had to turn down a job as a water aerobics instructor because of this. I just want to be a wife and mother who doesn't have to go to bed at 9 every night. I want to swim laps again and not fear getting out of the pool.
I used to be a fun mom - now I'm just a tired one who cries easily.
I want ME back!

Whew! Thanks for that release. And thanks for caring enough to reply.

Endometrial hyperplasia - now what??

Hi JeanieMarie,

Progestins (the synthetic form of progesterones) have worked wonders for me. I had endometrial cancer (which you know is far past hyperplasia) and the progestins got rid of it. I had no noticeable bad side effects from taking the progestins. Anyone who wants to read about my story can click the www button to the left of this message.
Of course.. I know those were my reactions and I know other women have different reactions.
Sometimes a Mirena IUD can be used in cases of hyperplasia. I have one as a followup to my own situation.
The Mirena contains progestins which can stop or cut down on menstrual bleeding. What makes it particularly good for some women is that the progestin dosage is smaller and more direct and therefore it has less side effects.
However, all the causes of your bleeding must be found out before it can be decided what your options are.
Good luck to you.
