Post op Hematoma???

I had my 5 week check up today and was expecting a go ahead with :all: activities...instead, DR said upon an enternal examination that he "felt" a large mass!!?? He said that either my one ovary that is left, has now developed a cyst (was afraid of this from the get-go!) or that I may have a hematoma from a cuff infection I developed 1 week post-op. I go back for an ultrasound this Friday to see exactly what it is. DR says that if it's my ovary, then it needs to be removed. BACK to castle again.... :hair: I was so upset when I left there that I forgot to ask what they will do if it's just a hematoma....so was wondering if any of you ladies out there had a hematoma and what they do about it? When he examined me, only in one certain spot was I in a great deal of pain (the part wher he felt the mass) Am scared now, as I do not want to go back to hospital at all. I feel really let down now...and was feeling on top of the world this morning before I went in.

Post op Hematoma???

Hi Gwen,
I can understand how you are feeling. I had hematomas two weeks post op and ended up back in the castle. My situation was complicated by the fact that I was running a high fever and bleeding bright red blood. They went in again to surgically drain the hematomas because they thought they were infected and causing the fever. They were not infected but during surgery they found I had diverticulitis instead. There are some great threads about that condition here on the forum. I asked what they would have done for non infected hematomas and they said just wait til they reabsorb which they do on their own.
I know how you are feeling because it is tough enough to recover from the original surgery. Then getting news that you might have other things going on that require another castle stay can really bring a Sister down! Several other threads are out there that address these challenges for some of us. (I have posted a few myself) Currently I am facing another surgery situation in the near future. The idea of recovering from anesthesia alone really bums me out! Know that there are other sisters out here who feel for you! I am sending you good thoughts and warm wishes! Take care Gwen!

Post op Hematoma???

Hi Gwen

I had surgery to drain a hematoma at 3 weeks post-op. It seems that most of the gals I see on here are able to wait it out & have the hematoma dissolve on its own. I would guess the course of treatment depends on where it is, and how it is affecting the patient.

Good luck on your appointment on Friday. I hope the doc is able to find an answer for you!

I am sending huge cyberhugs
