What is a vaginal drain?

Ladies,
Scheduled for a TAH/BSO on October 25. Let it suffice to say that I am TERRIFIED, but would like to have someone tell me what a Vaginal drain after surgery is. Sounds pretty strange to me and the not knowing is the worst. I have my pre-op appointment with my great Doc. on the 20th, hate to disturb her, but can't wait to find out. (or can I)
