HOt flashes/ night sweats
HI,
I had my surgery 12\4\03. Well I have been cold my whole life so this past week I had my first hot flash. Yes, so mild I too thought maybe the heats up to high or I should stop sitting with heating pad on / Also had a slight sweating to skin once or twice. On a scale on one through 10 ( a ten flash being you think you are living in the bowels of a volucano ,it wasn't even a 3 for me.
Keep in mind ones adrenal glands also store some estrogen and until that supply of hormones is depleted in the body one may not feel symptoms of surgical menopause, and that will vary with every individual.
So will my symptoms get worse. who knows. May or may not. Will have to wait and see. Will I do HRT, again will make my choice durring the weeks or months to come. The good thing is we have time to make choices or to change those choices we make on how to manage this stage or stages to come depending on how we individually funciton, it's an ongoing process.
The nice part is there is always someone to help us along the road we travel. We are never alone.

Never Alone
Hello Barbie,
I had surgery on Dec 1. Kept both ovaries (not sure if you did?) I've had a few very mild "perspirations" at night (# 3 also prob). Can't even call them sweats. So I'm keeping an eye on them. Hope your symptoms stay manageable.
But I really wanted to say yes, we all have to make choices. How much easier when well informed. And this site has made sure I'm just that. I know I'll be referring to it for a long time.
I met my FIRST real, live lady who had had a hyster at a party on Boxing Day. She was 7 years on...she was just starting the meno thing (having had the op. when she was 40). She wisely did say that one HAD to expect some things to change. I think I was vainly hoping that everything would stay pretty much the same (except for Aunt Flo!) so that was a good thing for her to remind me (even skin getting drier she said).
I'm glad I'm a princess Glad I had the op. done. Hope you are too.
All the best. Happy 2004.
Nellie

Hi
I had my surgery the same day you did! I didn't even have a "choice" re: HMT; when I came out of the surgery and recovery, I had a patch on and now I have an RX for Estraderm patches. I have an appointment with my doctor tomorrow to check my incision, so I'll ask him about this. I feel dizzy a lot and attribute it to getting used to the "fake" hormones in my body. Are you making it pretty well without any hormone replacement? I'm tempted to talk to my doctor about discontinuing the patch and see how I fare without hormones, but I just don't know what to do.
GOOD LUCK to you and I hope all of us sisters heal completely and soon!
Sincerely,
Kathy

HOt flashes/ night sweats
HI <
I had a TAH with a BSO ANd excsion of abdominal mass.
I am doing ok. Still trying not to overdue it and won't being seeing my doctor till 1/7/04. So don't really know all the details of my surgery and and pathology report yet. SIgh.
I hope by the time I see him I will have experienced most the sympotoms that will be occurring with the loss of my Hormones and thus can discuss those symptoms and options open to me.
As I said before I will play HRT by ear, so to speak. I may try it for a while and if that dose not work will try going without HRT. That's the nice part it's not like you can't try meds and see how that effects one.
The big change for me will be when I return to work. I have a very physical job and wonder how that will work out with being only 7 weeks post op on my return to work.
Will keep you all in my prayers.

Are there choices regarding HRT. I'm on Premarin and I'm embarrassed to say with everything else that went on I never had the pro and con discussion with my doc about whether or not to do HRT or what types of HRT there are. Any info would be so appreciated!
