What to do about a cyst??
I now have a cyst on the only ovary I have. Talked to dr last night and said that I can take bcp's, lupron, depro, etc and told him NO! I cannot take bcp's, already tried lupron before my hyst-I will NEVER do that again and cannot take hrt's due to cancer in the family(mom had breast and colon and watching a spot on the other breast). I use NPC to balance out the hormones but don't know what to do. I was doing soo good not taking the pain meds and all of a sudden I'm right back where I started. Has anyone else had cysts? What kind of treatment is there? I am using a licocaine patch that I put over the area and on my back. I am thin so I can feel the cyst which is hard and hurts. What happens if it ruptures? I had one removed 5 1/2 yrs ago but don't remember much about it other than it burst right before he went in there. I don't know what to do anymore and any answers or suggestions would be greaqtly appreciated.
Thanks!!!

What to do about a cyst??
Hi I just read your post and I also have a cyst on my right ovary( kept both) I had a TAH in May and felt great and then in November I had a pain in my right side and back a vaginal ultrasound showed a cyst. He said a repeat sono (i am having it on January 20) I really don't know what will happen if it is still there I know it is because I am still uncomfortable.I take 600 mg of Motrin and sometimes it helps. What other symptoms do you have from the cyst! I would hate to have surgery again but I think if I do I will ask him to take both ovaries I d onot want to thru this again! Do you know what they usually try first? Thanks

What to do about a cyst??
I am also having problems with cysts. I have PCOS so I have been dealing with the cysts problem for the last 7 years or so. I talked to my doctors nurse today because the pain has been bad. It comes and goes last anywhere from 2days to 2weeks. She told me to take Ibrophine told her I can't because of my stumack (GERD & Barrett's) she said then take tyenol but that does not help. Her only other suggestion was that I take BC pills but I was told about 5 yrs ago I can't take them because of problems with migranes. She basicly told me that I just have to deal with them it's just part of the PCOS. The only time I had any releif was on lupren but I don't want to take that stuff again.
I'll be watching this post to see if any other sisters give you any advice on how to deal with these cysts. I am fustrated that I am still having problems. I was so hoping to be pain free after this sugery.
Best of luck!

Hello...
I had my hyster 8 months ago and kept my left ovary and now it's formed a cyst. It's VERY painful...I'm on vicodin for that pain and an intestinal problem that hasn't been diagnosed yet (still working on that).
I will be having my ovary removed. I figure (and my doctor agreed) that because I had a cyst form so quickly after my hyster, and because it's large and surrounding the ovary, it's time to just get the ovary out of there. I don't want repeated surgeries because I'll increase adhesions, and they cause me pain now.
(((Sweety Tweety)))) I'm concerned that your doctor's nurse told you there is nothing more you can do. There is always pain management. It's okay to seek more help, and you're not alone. I couldn't use anything less than vicodin...it wouldn't help the pain. Vicodin isn't a permanent solution for me...and it isn't perfect, but it helps ease the pain until my next surgery. Please seek out help, either directly from your doctor or from another doctor, or pain management specialist. Don't settle for what just one nurse tells you. As much as I love nurses (they can be such awesome people) they aren't all right. When it comes to my health I don't take 'no' for an answer...I seek out help until I'm satisfied with the answer I've gotten.
Hugs and Healing,
Rita

What to do about a cyst??
Ovarian cysts can be a chronic and exhausting problem. Unfortunately, they are very common so many people suffer from them. My first symptom about 2 years ago was a stabbing pain on the right side. Ultrasound revealed a 4 cm cyst on the right ovary. The doctor said most ovarian cysts shrink on their own, but he put me on low-dosage BC pills to "rest" the ovaries. After 3 months on the low-dose pills, a repeat ultrasound showed that the right cyst has disappeared, but I now had a 3 cm cyst on the left! When he increased the BC dosage, I was sicker than a dog and had migraines. Another repeat u/s showed both cysts had disappeared and the ovaries were so small, they were almost invisible! This was great news, but because of the side effects of the BC pills, he switched me to Depo-Provera for 6 months.
While on Depo, my ovaries felt great so no repeat ultrasounds were done. During this timeframe, we scheduled the hyst because of the fibroids. When he was doing the surgery, he noted both ovaries were "coated" with small cysts and removed the ovaries. Luckily, all were benign on the pathology report. I had absolutely no idea I had developed new cysts because I wasn't having the sharp pains I'd had before. (Probably because they were still small).
Unfortunately, what I was told is that people who are prone to get "functional" ovarian cysts have a tendency to keep getting them...it's rarely a one-time occurence. The only way I was able to keep them relatively under control was by taking BC, which comes with it's own lovely set of risks and side effects! It's sure not an easy decision to make. If your lucky, your cysts may respond to a low-dose BC pill or patch with no harsh side effects. It may be worth a try. I messed with it for 2 full years and finally decided that being approx. 10 years away from "natural" menopause, I wasn't willing to endure it any longer.
Good luck to all dealing with this. If you can tolerate it, I think it's always worthwhile to look at conservative treatment first. Unfortunately, these cysts can be stubborn
p.s.: the above only applies to "functional" cysts that occur during ovulation, as opposed to the dermoid cysts that form from other tissues and, I believe, usually need to be surgically removed.

cyst
I had a TVH in June 03, and they found a cyst on my right ovary just 2 over weeks ago. It was 4.7 cm at that time. I was having pain that kept getting steadily worse with time. Finally, two days ago, I went to the ER because the pain was so bad and not controlled with any med. It turns out that my cyst ruptured. I saw my gyn. the next day as a follow up and she said that these cysts are normal and common. I should say that this gyn is a different one than the one who did the surgery. I had the surgery for excessive, prolonged bleeding all but 10 days out of the month. I also had abdominal pain and cramping all the time prior to surgery. The pathology report showed no abnormalities. Now that my cyst has ruptured, I do feel some pain relief, but I still have that cramping that has been going on since before my surgery. My doc. doesn't want to do a lap. because she says that surgery is a last resort. My ER u/s showed several small cysts on both ovaries that my gyn says is normal and shouldn't be the cause of my pain. She seemed truly baffled. She mentioned cystitis, IBS, and diverticulitis as other possible causes even though I have no other symptoms.
So, back to your question about what to do about a cyst? I'm as lost as you are! Just know that if you have severe pain, you should seek medical attention immediately. The ER doc told me that some women have severe internal hemmoraging with a ruptured cyst. Luckily, that wasn't the case for me this time.
I hope this helps!

What to do about a cyst???
Hello girls,
Here's one of those "I sound silly" questions but where else could I ask it but here?
Everyone is talking about cysts ON their ovaries but I was told that my cyst is IN the ovary. What's the diff?? I had an ultrasound 2 days ago and now going to the doctor to decide what to do.
Just interested to know because I asked the technician if it was in or on and she was hestitant but said it's definately INside and about 3 or 4 cm.
Other silly question--how big are our ovaries?? I didn't think they were very big so if the cyst is inside the ovary could that be why I'm having so much pain???
Thanks for letting me ask silly questions and hopefully I'll get an answer back...
Hugs to all,

What to do about a cyst??
Hi All!
I am very Interested in this post. Reading all of your messages it scares me some. I have been having pain in my right ovary. On Aug 28 2003 I had a lap to remove all of the Endometriosis. Needless to say the lap only worked for a little while and Bang I had my Hyster TAH/LSO on Nov 4 2003. Only to find out during the Hyster that the Endo had grown back since my Aug 28 Lap. (GREAT!) Also when the Path-Report came back Endo was in Everything and Everywhere. Including inside my Left Tube and Ovary.
Needless to say I am still having the same problems as before and also my right ovary has been giving me grief. I know I made a silly mistake in leaving the Right Ovary and Tube in there and I honestly think that the Endo is Back in Full Force! There is No Uterus or Cervix anymore either! Grrrrr So how is this Endo Growing Again? Also During my Aug Lap the Right Ovary was covered with Endo where you could not see it what so ever. So reading all of you replys I know I am not the only one like this. (This is a Great Site!) I am Scared. I know I am not out of the woods yet.......
I also can not take Mortin etc due to Intestinal Problems (Intestinal Ulcers) which I will find out more on Monday. So I have always been on Percoceit. I try not to take them either.....I have to see my Gyn again for my check-up so I guess I will go from there since she did both surgerys. Knowing my Endo had grown back since Aug... If any of you find out what to do next could you let me know? I am real worried now! My DH is Deploying to Iraq Soon and I so Much Want to be better before he has to leave me. How I feel like I have to cry. I send all of you Hugs. How I know How most of you feel...We all have to Hang in there Together...God Bless All of You!
Cheley
