Post op vaginal bleeding 9 days after a TAH/BSO

Good morning!

Post op vaginal bleeding 9 days after a TAH/BSO...scares me. Dark red light bleeding but not very much. Called OBGYN this morning and she said it is similar to a "scab" oozing and is not uncommon. She said stay horizontal and don't worry unless I soak up a pad or two. Any of you had the same symtoms? Thanks!

Having this or a slight discharge is what I experienced. Never bright red blood. Just a discharge. At first it was dark like the first start of your period, then a light pink, then just a yellowish color. This lasted about 2 1/2 weeks and now free of anything. Yee Haa!! Some women have it longer, some not at all....Hope this helps........

A light discharge can be normal after surgery. I had no discharge for many days after surgery and then developed a light, pinkish discharge. When I went for my 6 week post-op exam my doctor discovered a bit of granulation on my vaginal cuff. (It was tissue trying to form over undissolved stitches and was causing the discharge.) He cauterized the area with silver nitrate and that took care of the spotting. If the discharge is bright red, becomes heavy or you develop any new pain you should call your doctor right away. When you go in for your post-op exam your doctor will most likely examine you to make sure you are healing properly.

Rest, pamper yourself!

Me Too

Hi JLafontaine:

I am 8 days post op from a TAH-BSO and you were describing my exact symptoms. I am still having a light discharge that is dark in color. Mostly just spotting but my doctor says this is normal. I guess we just continue to rest and don't over do it.

post op bleeding

Hi...

I had light discharge two weeks after my procedure and DR said that it was because the stitches were starting to disolve. It became heavy but stopped within a few hours - which DR said it would. I haven't had any discharge since then.

Jill, I'm 7 days post op and am having the exact same type of bleeding as you (and, as it appears) a few others. I'm glad you called your doc, b/c I was going to today! Mine is bright red blood, but just spotting. More when I go to the bathroom. I overdid it a bit on Saturday and the bleeding got worse. A good wake up call.

I'm starting week 6 after my LAVH and I still have some bleeding. I went to the doctor this past Thursday and found out that I'm healing slower than normal. I still have some stitches too. The doctor said that everything is fine and if I start bleeding more than a normal period to let him know. I also have to go back in two weeks if the bleeding doesn't stop.

Side note - it's been 5 years since my last "normal" period, can't hardly remember what those are like.

Hi!
I've posted about this before - now that I have more time under my belt, i'd like to share again.

From the surgery until about 2 wks, I had pink spotting. On Christmas Eve I started the red/brownish bleeding you describe and also called the Dr. They told me the same advice you got. It stopped by the end of the day, and started up again 2 days later. I am now almost 5-weeks post op and absolutely nothing, not even spotting.

Since the bleeding episodes, I decided to listen to the Dr. more so than I imagined - 'pelvic rest'. Along with the wonderful posts by other Hyster Sisters, and simply rest. I have not driven, lifted, or any of the no no's that we really should not be doing. I think this has contributed to the bleeding coming to an absolute halt!
:

My best to you!!
