Type of surgery
Hi ladies
I have seen a few comments about the type of surgery being done "because I have never had children". Does this make a difference - can you not have it done vaginally if you haven't had a child? I have 1 child, but had a c-section with no labour at all.
Naomi.

Type of surgery
Hi there Nome,
I was desparately hoping to have a TVH or a LAVH, but my doc told me that she would not feel comfortable trying to get my uterus out through my vagina since it has never been dilated. I didn't think the dilating part would matter since the cervix is coming out, not dilating. Maybe she meant stretched in general. I am also a pretty small girl and I am not sexually active so that may add to it. I have been on Lupron to shrink my uterus so I thought maybe there was a chance she could still get it out vaginally. But I trust her judgment and I want her to be comfortable doing whatever she needs to do.
I have also heard, though, that too much scar tissue from previous births can prevent doing a TVH or prevent using an old c-section scar.
As with everythign else, it really does depend on you and your surgeon. Since I am young, she only expects a 6 week recoery for me, not eight and I will have a bikini cut that won't ever show.
I hope you get your invitation to the castle soon. I am so happy to have my questions answered and have a date set.
Nicole

nome,
My doc was concerned about the same thing. I have never had a pregnancy, but he managed to do a LAVH nonetheless. Just after my surgery he said it was a pain in the neck to get my uterus out, but he did. I'm grateful he must be a good surgeon, I'm recovering nicely.
I go to my first post-op next week and get to hear all the details. My right ovary was attached to my pelvic bone, so I am pretty amazed he didn't wind up doing an abdominal incision when he discovered that! LAVH must be a modern medical triumph--that they can repair and remove organs with such small incisions.
Good luck with your surgery! Your doc will decide what works best for you. Ask lots of questions so you are prepared mentally with whatever possibilities your doc suggests.
