To those of you who have had a TAH,
I had a six inch scar from my surgery ("bikini-cut", I think the surgeon called it). I was closed with staples that came out on day two, before I left the hospital. I was concerned about the scar, which looked pretty ugly, so I asked at my local health food store about "scar creams". I was told that camphor was a good ingredient to look for, as it stimulates circulation and therefor healing. Most of the creams that I looked at came in tiny tins with huge prices, so I decided to make up my own. I have been using a combination of vitamin e oil, a good dry skin balm (a little pot of natural lip balm will work) and for the camphor, mentholatum rub. Yes, that stuff you use for colds! Long story short, I started putting this stuff on as soon as the wound was fully healed and I am starting to see results. It has been a few months of applying every day, but parts of the scar have faded totally, and the rest is looking pretty good, relatively speaking. Thanks again to all of you have posted, this site is a great help and comfort.

is REALLY important. I'm glad you were careful to include it.

Last night I finally put vitamin E cream on it and the itching is just about gone. Personally I don't care about scars, but I wanted to promote healing and no itching. Like you only put something on the incision after it's healed up. You don't want to have any infection starting.
